Just got the new sigma after previously owning the 24-70 a year ago. Size and weight difference are massive improvements and I don’t notice the image quality difference. Compact size and weight are well worth purchasing this for a standard zoom.

I own both Sigma 28-70mm , 24-70mm lenses. The 24- 70 is bigger than the 28-70mm I have. They both offer sharp pic.s with great color. Yet I favor the 28-70mm as I shoot SeaScapes ! This lens seem ideal for slowing motion of water ! It's small to maneuver through gate holes taking pic.s . Yet both are great for traveling light / compact ! Place a CPL or ND on either and watch the magic at work ! You won't be disappointed !! Good Luck !!!

I’ve had the Tamron in the past, and its awesome, compact, and has great autofocus. Now l own the 24-70 Art, and l think it’s great. The build quality is really what drew me to it. But... it is insanely heavy if you’re used to primes or Tamrons lenses. Just something to adapt your gear and yourself to!

I have the Sigma 24-70 and think it's great. Two big advantages: I do think it's nice to have a professional looking lens if you're doing some professional shooting. Your client seems to feel more comfortable having hired you if your gear looks serious, haha. The Sigma Art looks like it was expensive! And yeah, it's just nice to have a 24mm. I travel a lot and I think I would miss 24mm if I didn't have it on my standard zoom. Sometimes you want to shoot a building, or shoot your friends/family in front of a building or some vast scenery, and 24mm does the trick. 28mm will often prove too tight for that kind of shot.

I agree, even though we know what our gear is capable of in a smaller foreign factor, clients just always like to see a bigger more expensive looking lens lol. Just makes them feel like we're more professional.

One thing regarding build quality you didn't mention that could be important to some: Tamron is weather sealed, Contemporary lens only has a mount gasket but is otherwise not sealed.

@@dunnadidit the 28-70 leaning a bit more into blue is actually a slight benefit, as it matches the usually slightly cooler rendition of Sony-Glass. I really wish, more people when conparing lenses would also speak about color reproduction. I use them mainly for filmmaking and the cast can change wb by sometimes over 300k...that is significant and when mixing shots it means i have to tweak every shot individually as wb-differences just pop out more in film then in single pictures. I never found any online reference that simply shot a colorchart and a face with different lenses. Its especially infuriation when people complain about „colorscience“ from brand x being good/bad while not even realizing they used a heavy orange casting samyang lens on one body and top of the line G-master or L-Lens on the other...

It will depend on your comfort level. It's definitely a heavier lens, but it never really bothers me. That said, my opinion is probably a little askew because I also frequently carry the 100-400GM so when I carry the Sigma it's doesn't seem that heavy.

Nice video. Very comprehensive. One word of advice, though...you may want to revisit your "stills" autofocus methodology. Tap focus on the LCD is as effective in determining autofocus performance for stills as a written driving exam is at predicting how good a driver one will actually be. I won't mention any names (Samyang 35mm f/1.4 Gen 1), but there are plenty of lenses out there that show promise with your test, but end up producing less than acceptable results. In all seriousness, when testing a wide aperture lens, you really should put the camera in continuous focus with center autofocus point and quickly pivot the camera between two subjects at different distances, while taking pics at each movement. You may then have a subject walking/running at you, while shooting a burst, to see what the keeper rate is. Just my two cents.

Really struggling to decide between buying the Sigma Contemporary and the Art. Buy now and have to use for current projects or wait and use FE 50mm 1.8 until I can save the extra $500.
