I need to remember that the people I watch on KZbin are doing this as their job. They need all the things, that why they have them. They have supporters that might provide them with product free (NOT ALWAYS) but sometimes. I don't need everything to be able to craft. I need to take their ideas and apply them to the thing I have. Don't be a collector of thing ...use them!!! Use what I have collected. I love you ideas for these Mondays talks. You are one of the first youTubers I started to follow. If you say it then it the way it should be. Thanks for all you do!!!!

When I first started papercrafting, I didn't have a penny to my name as a single mom is 2 young boys, so I had to check garage sales for supplies. I also had to save up money to buy things on big sales or clearance sections at my local craft stores. After 20 years of creating, I've probably got too much supplies now, but I challenge myself to use up older supplies.... so i can buy more!!!! I mostly make cards now and donate all of them to my church, nursing homes or to teachers.

Really good advice, I'm more like "spit on a griddle". Oh, I want to do that, oh now I want to that. I do have lots of supplies and my favorite is paper crafting. I also have a craft room that I use when the weather is good (upstairs no heat or cooling). But I still end up on my kitchen counter. Just the right height cause I like to stand . I'm trying to give my self some grace with it all. I'm just having fun.

We’re empty nesters in a three-bedroom home. My husband turned one bedroom into his home gym. He and I turned the third bedroom into my craft room. It works perfectly for us, and if we have have guests come into town, we are happy to help them find a nearby hotel. 😂😂😂

I’ve always been a crafter since I was a child. Mom taught me to crochet, another lady taught me to knit. I’ve done latch hook, needle work such as needle point, cross stitch, and embroidery. I do diamond painting too. I’ve found crafts to be rewarding and relaxing as well. I got a Cricut Maker as a gift from my husband, just after he bought me a sewing machine in 2017. Needless to say I had to pick one to use first. I picked the Cricut. I made all the mistakes, bought all the pretty paper not knowing what to do with it. Thank goodness I found KZbin. I found Melody Lane, soon after I started looking on KZbin, and fell in love with her personality and creativity. Through her I found Maymay Made It. I wasn’t interested in stamping so didn’t stay too invested in watching EVERYTHING you posted. I’ve learned a lot and decided to get into stamping. So glad I knew exactly where to go, right here! Thank you for your excitement about bringing us so many things, crafting instructions, a crafting family, and your love of our Lord.

When I started scrapbooking I bought all the things and found that half the stuff I bought I never used. I also had trouble matching supplies for a cohesive layout. My advise to people who are interested in beginning a project like this is to buy a kit to start with. It will give you the basic supplies, everything will go together, its economical and you can try it to see if you like it before spending a bunch of money. And bonus if you do enjoy it you can always add other supplies as you go.

I agree! It sounds so simple right? With a few basic tools (scissors, craft knife, ruler, cutting surface, glues), a kit is a great way to go. I wish I realized they existed way back when. I guess I had been living under a rock or something. LOL

I fell into paper crafting when we moved out here to the States from the UK, and a friend introduced me to Scrapbooking. All I had was a fold up table at the side of a bed in a bedroom. I invested in a paper trimmer, which is still my favorite tool, and by the way, I am still using the same one which I have had for almost 20 years. My time for crafting was when everyone went to bed, and I could sit in peace and quiet. My mom tried to introduce me to cards, and I resisted. When I finally tried it, I couldn't stop. Now I am retired, and it is just my husband and I at home. We made a dedicated space for my crafting and his computer. He did a great job fitting it out on a budget. Like most crafters, we used Ikea drawers and cubes. I now have a new crafting hobby. I collect paper, stamps, dies, inks and pastes!!!! I have so much stuff I am overwhelmed. I am in the process of clearing out a lot of stamps and dies I don't use. I have so many cards that I haven't sent, and, as my skill and love of techniques has grown, the ones I originally made I no longer want to send. So, I am going back to my roots, and taking up scrapbooking once again. I have so many photos of my grandchildren that need to be memorialized. My advice to new crafters, put these two tools on your Christmas list. A paper trimmer, one with the ability to score paper, and a MISTI, or other stamp platform. You will not regret it.

Fantastic video! I'd like to add you should always be ready to change from where you started. I started card making, as a retired florist who needed a way to stay creative and relevant in a new part of the country. From where I started 7 years ago, I have slowly turned it into a business (not my intention at first), and have, with help from your videos, realized how much I love folios, albums and 3D paper crafts. Thank you for everything you teach.

Thank you Maymay... what I have discovered I need to work on is kinds of stamps & dies, and papers/packs to get. How to think about it and what to look for. I did that thing where you watch a video and I had to get the same things. That did not last a very long time, but I do tend to purchase in a way that allows me to do a single project at time, which is limiting me. Right now I believe a good 85% of my stamps, dies, and sentiments are all Christmas themed. I would like to transition to a wider variety. For instance. I have no specific Valentine's Day stamps/dies or sentiments. I could probably come up with something, but the point is, I'd like it to be easy to realize oh yeah I have that and where/what it is vs. thinking 'hmmmm' what the heckfire do I have and it's certainly not grouped together. I have a Bo Bunny sentiment group that I can make it say Happy Valentine's Day, but I don't have any longer sentiments for the inside... you get my drift? No matter what you decide to cover, I am already learning even though I've been doing cards and tags for a long time. Just been very basic with the designs until the past 3ish years (incl. lockdown).

You asked "what do you want to do with it?" (...keep it, gifts, sell product, etc...) I have been scrapping for 22 years and this question continues to confound me! I very much want to make scrapbooks for myself, but I constantly get involved and gravitate towards making gifts for other people. I have never been able to truly answer that question for myself in a workable way.

Maymay, I am loving this series! You are so right in saying you can go overboard by thinking you need everything at once and before you realize it you have enough paper and tools to last several lifetimes. :) I began my papercrafting journey with a card kit and have never looked back. Folding, cutting and designing cards is my happy place. I also love to make 3d dioramas out of paper. I am lucky enough to have a crafting room but that is even getting crowded so my 2023 goal is to use up most of my paper before I invest in more (except for any specialty paper I may need). There I go justifying a purchase already. :) I am really looking forward to your future videos in this series. Thank you for sharing.

I started with paper, black ink, and 2 rubber stamps. It was years before I bought a Cuttlebug. Before the Cuttlebug, I used scissors to cut circles, after tracing with a can, and basically anything to emboss that did not require the machine. Now, years later, I have a room full of tools, stamps and paper. I enjoy the process and send several cards a year. Sometimes I would like to go back to the days when money was not there and I didn't have so much. I think I was more creative with what I had, rather than searching for the idea on Pinterest or a video.

There was no such thing as a Misti or much of anything else. Now, there is SO much out there, it’s so easy to get overwhelmed. Great Video and suggestions. I learn something from you at every video! Organization Tip for beginners: I wish I had made a catalog of my tools, such as stamps and dies, etc. I remember so much agonizing with my first rubber stamp purchase. After about 5 years of collecting, I got a message from a customer service person after I had ordered the 5th set of the same "leaf" stamps. Liked it so much I just kept buying it! The customer service rep was awesome and let me send back 4 of the sets and gave me a credit. I still laugh about that but learned a good lesson. Now I keep a list, by manufacturer, name and number of each stamp or die set I buy (either in Quicken or Excel that can be searched) or in a storage option for each company for instance. (I have a Maymay box) I also have a 3-ring binder with samples (by theme) so I can remember what I have. Each set is labeled in the catalog for where it is stored for quick access. BTW, that first stamp I purchased was in 1983!

I was blessed, I started papercrafting by being invited to a stamping group. The ladies were really helpful in what tools I should start with. I was rather delusional, in that I thought if I just got a heat gun, embossing powder, ink and cardstock, I could use the stamps from the other ladies... that fell by the wayside fast. I LOVE vintage, so I bought a ton of stamps in that theme/genre. I then made a LOT of impulse purchases... which I regret doing... I bought a ton of stuff that I never used.

So much so, that I wasn't able to complete the next grandchild's baby scrapbook and the poor 5th grandbaby has one page complete in hers and she is now 9 yrs old!!! At first, I mainly bought what was needed, but as I watched more paper crafting videos I thought I needed everything that was anywhere near my budget. Now, I have 2 small bedrooms crowded with crafting supplies! I'm trying to slow down on watching those videos now. When my mother died in 2007, she left a drawer full of red rubber stamps. I had never stamped before but couldn’t bring myself to throw them away. I watched KZbin videos on how to use them and started creating greeting cards. I now make them for family, friends, my church people and for charitable organizations. This past year I made and sent out right at 600 cards. I would never have started enjoying this paper craft if not for the supplies that my dear mother left behind.

I wish I would have seen this two years ago before I bought supplies for every craft imaginable 😂 I’m smarter now but had to learn the hard way. Thanks for making this video. It’s makes me feel better knowing I’m not the only one who jumps all in before researching. 😂

I’ve graduated from the dining room table, where I had to pick up my scrapbooking supplies after every session. Now I do have a craft room, which is also my workspace for my job. But now, I don’t have to pick up every single thing. I do, though so that when I come next to craft, I start with a clean slate and desk space.

Love your ideas. I love paper folding. My paper hoard is sitting there waiting for me to do it. I do not have any fancy machines or gizmos. My focus is crazy fold cards. Which I have made several. I also have a hoard of ribbon and fabrics. I have so many ideas for but never take time to do them as I am so overwhelmed.

This is such great and valuable advice!! My boys had left home and I just kept watching videos and buying stuff because it looked fun. I wanted to have fun. I have more fun stuff than I have time to create as I’m still working full time and volunteering in the community. I’m trying to do better 😂 I do appreciate so much the quality tools I have purchased from you . I LOVE tools and these are invaluable and add to the success and joy of the projects❤ Plus you always show us how to use them. You are a gem. Thank YOU❤

I’m glad you brought up climate. I live in Florida and I have a she shed for crafting. I found out real quick that paper and tape do not do well in my shed. My husband suggested that I buy a dehumidifier ( I never knew they existed) and presto! Problem solved.

Hi May May. I love this series. I have done everything you talked. I basically still just want to buy everything that’s pretty. LOL, but I have learned to rein myself in. Partly it’s space. I do have a craft room, but the space isn’t unlimited. It’s not like Doctor WHO’s that’s “bigger on the inside”. I wish! Thanks for the video.

Much of my crafting has been similar to your journey. I've tried different things, sometimes bought products I haven't used much, but have learned a lot along the way. I have crafted primarily for my own enjoyment (and therapy), it is so good for the mind. I share with family and friends, but have been blessed to sell a few products. I always say I make enough to pay for some supplies. Right now, I make cards, junk journals and mini albums. I appreciate all the help and instruction you and your staff provide.

I too am one of those crafters that when I start a new craft I have to have everything. I now have much stuff that I don’t use and I swear it’s breeding. I have a craft area my husband helped me create so I’m lucky there. When I want to buy something I’m trying to think will I use or is this a want. Thank you for this series because even with me crafting for years I can still learn something new. 🥰💕

Re: the big craft room -- I remind myself those craft room tours are not like my craft space -- they're more like MayMay's store tours. It's their business! A lot of their products are given to them by the company so they have All The Things. Re: budget -- I also have to remind myself they are paid when I buy something. Not saying they don't deserve to get paid! Just saying our wonderful YT video crafters are like the midnight infomercials of yesteryear. That means I Don't Need Everything they're using. I enjoy using my creativity to find a workaround! 😊

Awesome questions! I love your answers! I went over board! I want to find my craft! I believe it is making journals! I know so many people who love them. I never could get into writing stuff down. Kinda like reading. The only book I read now is my Bible. I do beading once in a while! When I want to make a burbs present. But I really want to learn the Journal making craft! Thank you so much for this series! I look forward to the next one! God bless! Love hugs and prayers my friend!

I love the positivity and encouragement you offer in your videos. I have a "crafty corner" at home where I can just lose myself. Crafting has become a way for me to release my stress, and it has helped me to learn that I can do more than just work. (I am a bit of a workaholic, hence my stress! Haha) I don't always know what I'm going to do with the crafts that I make, but I know that I am a happier person when I craft. Thank you for being part of my crafty journey!

Fantastic points. I would like to learn how to sew so I can finish the quilt that I started with my mom. When I finish the quilt I will ask myself, "Did you like sewing?" If not, then it's time to get rid of the totes of fabric that I've been saving. (🧵Did you notice that I said when I finish and not if I finish the quilt?)

Yeah…. It’s too late for me…. I’ve already bought ALL the stuff for ALL the crafts… and do none ‘cos I’m so overwhelmed and don’t know where to start or how to spark my motivation …. But my craftroom looks like a fully stocked shop…. At least that part also makes me happy 😂😂😂 I think I’m just a craft shopper not doer 🤗😜 (Knitting, crochet, yarn, stamps, markers, w/c paints, fabric, hardware, notions, polymer clay, needlework and felting, quilling, paper, tools…..etc ect, I’ve bought it all! I’m also craft ADHD and a spontaneous buyer with full set syndrome and no self control 😂) I took up quilting for the first time over Xmas too… but I also have 9 sewing machines, the last one last week, bought over the last 7 years! 😂 (I did make a Queen quilt top with 2” squares of all the fabric I’ve bought over the last 5 years (and got to use all the acrylic/quilting rulers I’ve bought too… some of the 70+ rulers I own 😂)…. So at least I finally got to use them after them sitting there all that time… a living catalogue of my fabric buying, if you will! I feel so accomplished!!) 😂😂😂 My main craft seems to be bagmaking tho (5 years now)… I’m crafty not arty but I really keep trying to be, by buying all the art supplies I see in YT videos … that I never use…. I really need to stop watching YT 😂

I have been a part-time crafter for most of my life. Several years ago, I wanted to try paper craft. I love it. I too needed to slow my mind and it works! My biggest mistake was buying up paper pads that I thought I needed. Now my challenge is to use them in my makes. It’s hard to find time to craft most days, but as others have said, you need to make time, even if it’s just 30 minutes. I enjoy watching your videos and learning, while laughing with you all during crafter after shows, while I craft. You guys are my crafting buddies on my schedule, so I love you for that!

I have been watching your videos since October 2022. I started with a fall wreath. Then saw the paper crafting. I fell in love. I’ve bought way to much stuff. I want so much more. My birthday money went to paper craft my family bought me a cricut for Christmas. I have jumped into the rabbit hole and I’m trying to figure out where to start and where to go with it. Thank you for this series of videos. I’m hoping I can get some direction. I love listening to you and your crew. Some KZbin channels I can’t stand to listen. You are soothing and funny. A perfect match for me. Blessings to you all. 😊

Thank you for this series. I had an a-ha moment today during this video. For this season of life, I realized I don't have interest in making cards (which I thought I had to do to be a paper crafter), but I do want to make Folios to capture memories of my kiddos as they grow. I'm going to start focusing in on that one specific part of paper crafting this year rather than spread myself so thin trying to do everything. Thank you MayMay.

I started as a scrapbooker when my daughter was a baby then just stopped. I moved twice lugging all of my supplies in boxes. Pandemic hit and I started watching card makers and it inspired me to make cards. I added a Sizzix Big Shot which totally changed how I make cards. I love dies. Then I started adding inks and then blending. My joy is sending cards for all and any occasions.

Before making my first quilt last September, I watched a multitude of videos, falling in love with every line of fabric and every new tool. I resisted the urge to impulse purchase, instead I narrowed my must halves down and only splurged on the material. I could collect fabric like no ones business ( fabric shopping reminds me of my mother), but I have to reign in that impIuse. Before Christmas, I decided to start paper crafting, so I watched a ton of your videos. Your favorite tool video and your Trimmer Trouble video were very helpful! Thx for all your help in this area. I decided I wanted to finally use the scrapbooking paper and albums I have had for the last 22 years, but I have now fallen in love with your stamps and it's going to take a ton of prayer to keep me from accumulating too much too fast. My lack of dedicated space and limited budget help keep me in check😉 Love your videos, I hope to make it up there sometime, your crafting in the country looked awesome! I loved the location and the view from the porch. Can't wait for your next video! Thx and hello to Vinny, Shannon, all the crew! Kisses to your girls at home, loved seeing them in your home videos.

You are right about everything! I am one that started on our dining room table. Since then, my hubby created a craft room for me. It's small, but I am very appreciative of it. Whenever I retired, I knew I had to have something to take up my time. I watched numerous videos and decided creating journals is what I wanted to do. Later, I started making cards. And I'm a tool buyer. I am lucky that I have the resources to purchase those tools. I am very thankful and very Blessed. My hubby supports what I do, and that makes life a whole lot easier, as well. But I didn't always have the money to do what I do now. It took a long time to get there. I absolutely LOVE this series, Maymay! Can't wait for the next one! Hugs 🩷 Suzy

I really enjoyed this video! Thank you for taking the time to post it. I used to be a big time crafter with a blog and even an online craft magazine. I put all that aside to focus on being a mom to our sweet little boy. Tides have changed and here’s where I am now. Our little boy (16) is getting more and more independent but my sweet Daddy (89) who lives with us needs almost constant companionship. I’ve set up a little cart with all my crafting supplies and a TV tray (just like your cousin!) and I sit with my dad for hours on end crafting my little heart out and watching every Maymaymadeit video I can find. I can’t tell you how much it meant to find you and how much joy you’ve brought me.

I thought it was funny hearing that you have the same issue of watching videos and going out to the store and buy what you saw them using. I am so guilty of that but at the same time, it makes me happy and now I have all the stuff and just havent used it. I keep adding and adding and I finally decided to organize and when look at all the stuff, the calculator in my head keeps going ca-ching ca-ching ca-ching. I watch you and several other talented people and see all the possibilities I can make. I'm overwhelmed and I dont know where to start. I'm a graphic designer and can design and make things - a jane of all trades but a master of none. I do know that I like making greeting cards and I enjoy encouraging and making others happy...if only I could make a profit off of it.
