My name is Eric and I own and run a niche market auto salvage business called Importapart. We have many different models but one of our core models is buying wrecked and problem vehicles from auctions and tow lots, dismantling them, selling the good parts, and recycling the rest. Many of the vehicles that come in do not run when they arrive.
I don't like to sell engines I can't hear run, so we typically go through some length to get cars to run before we tear them apart.
This is part 2. This is a pretty normal amount of work for us. Theres always some diagnosis, and trial and error when doing this. Of course, its never ideal, but if it works, it works!
As always I appreciate all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism.
If you'd like to buy parts from this Land Cruiser, it will be inventoried on 10-11-21. Email part requests to Importapartsales@gmail.com.
Thanks for watching!
-Eric

It's amazing what heavy duty experience and a positive attitude can accomplish: A running engine inside a completely wrecked front end. Well Done~!

This reminds me when Brit Top Gear tried many times to "kill" a Toyota Hillux in Series 3. After many other failed attempts to kill it, they finally placed it on the top of a 23 floor apartment building that crashed down during demolition. After clearing smoke and debris - the Hillux still started.

The best broken bolt/stud removal from a head is welding a washer to it, then a nut to the washer. The deal is you can weld the washer on much easier, then the nut to washer is trivial. The bolt or stud also gets heated a lot more, which itself can help removal.

Great job Eric, glad to see you doing your best to keep our 80's alive. I'm back to work overseas again but still plan on either going through the stock 4.5L that probably has a bad head gasket (freshen up the lump) or do the ultimate and go to the 5.3/6.0 w/6L80 or 90. Think i already mentioned that in your other video series. Happy New Year and chat later.

Not great at welding? Weld a washer on first. ID just under the thread OD. You can get a rock solid weld on that. Then you can sand it smooth and weld a nut on or just weld a nut on.

Great videos, gone are the days of scraping grease from my finger nails and cleaning the driveway with tide before my parents got home. Two questions, when you timed the engine for a second time how did you know your tdc was compression or exhaust? Why did you not reconnect #1 plug, lay it on a grounded surface, turn the key on and wiggle the distributor to the position it sparked to double check your timing? Sorry if these are stupid questions from an old guy..:) Love your sense of humor......

Says a lot about how you run your business, how methodical and careful you were to get this engine in running condition. Most places I've been just hook a jump box and turn the key and either it starts and idles for a few seconds so they pull it and sell it, or it gets tossed

“…Stop me from my great ideas…” Please, continue with your current “let’s just git ‘er done” attitude. Just wading into a problem and trusting your knowledge and experience to haul you through is the hallmark of people who actually accomplish things. I had already figured two or three ways to get rid of the windshield - each of which would have strung out the task at least 20 minutes. Sometimes F*** It is the best answer! Bent sheet metal? Why not pull out the diesel loader!? Amazed at your bravery just launching into these jobs.

I was always more of a manual trans Land Rover discovery person. BUT, I spent a bunch of time in rural Bolivia at 14k feet and the only trucks those cats trust are these mid 90s land cruisers, all of them having 300k plus and probably imported from the states. There are fleets of these things taking people to Bizarreo places where breaking down is simply not an option. While I think they are unattractive inside and out, it would be my Armageddon vehicle. It made sense when I read they were manufactured by Toyota for a 20 year lifespan rather than the normal 10 years. I’d love to find a nato spec, no option version with a manual transmission. (That’s of course impossible now with their current explosion of price and popularity).

I'm surprised it didn't have an inertia switch that triggered no fuel flow but I guess that was an older year model before they started requiring inertia cut-off switches to the fuel pump. Toyota does ridiculously over engineer their vehicles -- or at least they did in the 1990s.
