After leaving Colorado two days ago and finding several areas closed to forest fires (link below), I'm finally able to see why some consider Idaho the best kept secret in Fly Fishing...most don't need a passport! All I can say is WOW! I'm fly fishing an amazing stream in Idaho in part 21 of the 2 month road trip. The beauty of the stream and the quality of west slope cutthroat trout are incredible!
I'm living in my truck bed camper for 2 months and road tripping through New Mexico, Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming. See the entire series on my channel or other parts below....

@@imherenow87 If you fish Idaho and explore, you will rarely have bad days. I’m 95% sure I know every Idaho stream he’s hit, and 100% sure of the general area. @Looknfishy gives the perfect amount of info, imo. Just go to a likely stream you find on a good nap. There are fish there and the size depends on the season. You’ll do fine.

I spent the eve watching a lot of your videos. I really enjoyed em. I moved to Idaho about 4 months ago. My business of 35 yrs, was lost to the riots and vioIence in another state. I figured, I'd get back into flyfishing, and camping, then spend quality time with my grand kids, showing them how to do it. I'm so grateful to be here. Although I love watching your adventures, and how you bivouac, there's something else I get from your videos. I just wanna say thanks for taking the time to show that other thing. I'm pretty sure, that's where I'm headed as well. I hope you keep going, till you live in your peace, and I feel so grateful to get to watch the journey....Well done!

Love all your videos but this one is so awesome. What a great stream and some big fish on it! If you were using a fiberglass rod you would have enjoyed it even more!

Another awesome video. You are a fantastic story teller. I have 2 questions: 1. How do you find the streams you fish? Not asking for you to divulge any specific secrets, but very interested in your research process and the tools you use. When fishing a new area, do you plan well in advance or the day before? How much do you rely on word of mouth? What maps do you use? Hardcopy or electronic? 2. Also more than interested in your prep and packing for your day trips. Would love to know what pack or packs you carry? Do you carry water or a filter? How many rods go on a day trip? Would love to know the typical pack out list for your day trips. Do you have a video on this topic? Love your channel. Keep the stories coming!

Thank u! I explain the resources I use in this video and all I used on this trip. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXibc5eqi9qNkMU I'll share a walk thru vid of my pack soon! I usually carry 2 rods in 1 case...talk about that in the 100 fish in 4 hours backpacking trip. I carry a grayl water filter, food, and firs aid to name a few items. More detail in a dedicated vid to share soon!

That is awesome! I have the orvis bugout backpack and chest system. Really happy with it. Tons of space which is divided, really comfortable and it's pretty customizable with several add-ons. The biggest complaint I have is lack of a dedicated water bottle pocket. The rod tube doubles for water bottle holder and rod tube...so if you pack a spare rod you don't have a place to secure a water bottle. There are several D rings to attach it but I don't like feeling it swing around behind me. Just a small complaint for a pretty great system. Will do a walk thru video on it very soon!

@@georgesakellaropoulos8162 we used to have fine rivers, but we have 35.000 pairs of cormorants in this little country. They discovered how easy it was to empty rivers for fish. Now the have nearly done the same to lakes....and that goes for many other European countries- Germany, France, Schwitzerland....the balance has been distroyed by us humans :-(

@@Thymallus1965 Are the cormorants not native? I ask because we have that many within a 15 km. radius of where I live and they're part of the environment.

I can’t believe I found someone taking the trip I’m planning! Too awesome, man. Living off the grid and fly fishing. One question, I see that you mostly wet wade. What is your set up for that? Boots, wading socks?, etc. I have mostly worn waders but will need to go lighter with boots that are better for some of that hiking. Thanks! Always look forward to new videos.

I wear orvis ultralight wading boots to hike and wet wade. Good liners and good hiking socks. Love those boots...great traction, foot protection and durability. And light enough to hike in. Have recommended them to tons of people and heard back many times how awesome they are!

Hmm. Idaho. I'm planning next year's adventure. I want to stay away from the grizzlies (I did that in my younger days, Bob Marshall and Glacier and AK). Been to Colorado the past few years. I'm thinking maybe Idaho. Great vid. Nice fish for sure! Thanks for sharing. Idaho's looking better all the time.

What an great stream. And this is why native fish restoration is a big deal in the Rocky Mountain region. Streams produce more fish, and more healthy fish, when populated by a species that evolved there.

Gee's I think I would hang on that stream for at least a couple of weeks! If that is representative of the fish to be had. I bet there are even bigger trout in spots. Looks like little to no real fishing pressure. I think I will have to re-evaluate my only after labor day to go out west stance. July August Sept and October, 16 weeks of wandering around is better than just 8.
