LOL...if the contractor didn't pull a permit for something requiring a permit, you don't have to pay them here in Michigan. Check on that in PA. Laws are written this way to prevent contractors from doing unpermitted work.

As a tradesman, I appreciate your channel very much Inspector. I now find myself watching the other trades on the job, and my boss a hard working master electrician will even have me "fix" some of the shoddy work we see. You are making a difference sir.

Great question. I honestly had hope that Shane would. But ultimately he disappointed me and everyone else. He actually had a lot of people on his side hoping for the best.

Even my mom knows there are serious electrical code violations there! An ethical contractor whould have recommended a qualified electrician be brought in so, you know, the clients and anyone else visiting that hone, didn't get electrocuted and everything function properly. Unfortunately homeowners need to educate themselves on some basic codes or they are going to get scammed I guess. Maybe general contractors sheld ve required to be educated, certified and overseen because of stuff like this. People consider their house to be an investment and bad workmanship can affect the safety as well as the value of the home. Hats off to the good, ethical GCs and home inspectors. We need more of you.

I don't see the big issue. If the dude's so proud of his work he should have zero problem having it shown with his name attached. Not to mention there's codes for a reason, if he believes you're wrong it should be pretty easy to refute that referring to building code and such.

Just out of curiosity... if anyone could answer this, it would be awesome... Why would you cut up a second structural beam that was $1000... Whether you or the client paid for. To use it as a support when you could take a trip to just about any wood or home improvement store and get a 4x4 or 6x6, for probably $50 or less.
@Inspector_prestonКүн бұрын
Better question. Why would a wood beam be $1000 in the first place? Hmmm.

@@Inspector_preston Can't remember the span, but some LVL's can get pricy. I know some can get to the 700/800 range for exterior.

In my opinion, whether it's a home builder or a private contractor - there should always be a qualified person on staff to inspect each and every step of the work, so that these types of problems don't exist. Using sub-contractors and not inspecting their work makes you responsible. And last, there are always 2 sides to every story. What I don't understand is why you are getting involved being a mediator with the homeowner and contractor. Is that your job?

I was originally hired as an inspector. I'm also a member of the media that does content creation. Sometimes on an inspection I create content to disseminate to the public. These are two different things. In this case the homeowners asked me to be there and to document it on video and because I'm covering it as a story add social media content, I'm continuing to cover the story. If they ask me to do any additional inspection services, I will, and I will also document it on social media as a content creator. I can have several different roles and jobs.

So you would rather the homeowner just let all the messed up repairs be kept as is? lol Doesn't matter how it gets fixed, as long as the homeowner is happy and everything is done correctly. Why can't Preston be an Inspector and a good samaritan who hates to see people get screwed over? So what if he makes content creation? Doesn't excuse the GC's bad work.

I suspect Preston has uploaded videos that are currently set to private. He may change them to public if and when the contractor decides he doesn't want to address the deficiencies of the work that was done.
