The cabs were not always made prefect at the fire wall to the floor. I found one that had a 1/2 seam separation on side and 1/8 on the other. I been a 73- 87 C/K gm truck nut. Doing a full restore of 79 but upgrade to mod wiring (no ecm or LS) Old school with twits.

I had Hertz Speakers and was not happy with them so I sold them so I bought some cheap Kicker speakers for my front door because I was in a bind and they actually sound very nice. One thing I would recommend that you install a layer of sound deadening onto your panels, any vibration will rob you of acoustic energy. I used NOICO from eBay. Work just as good as the expensive stuff.

get yourself a component set with a separate woofer and tweeter with and external crossover. Any brand will do. Energy, infinity, Kenwood or Alpine. The woofer goes where your speaker is now. the tweeter can either go in your door panel higher up or your A pillar. the crossover can go anywhere you want to hide it. The sound quality even using only deck power without and external amp is just so nice to listen to. It also allows for upgrades if you ever decide to do so in future. Your eyes honestly wont even notice the tweeter is in your door panel after awhile. Give this some consideration you wont be sorry.. Bill

I've built decent sound systems using the Wally World sourced Pioneer speakers. There's nothing wrong with them if you aren't competing in some audiophile contest.

That was my 93 Suburban. With my new(er) 98 Suburban I figured out that base Rockford Fosgate speakers can be had for just a little more. I'm loving it. Good sound on a long road trip is key for me.
