I was a bit skeptical of this method at first and kept asking myself "why don't they have a proper materials handler like a Fuchs or Sennebogan etc. The fact is they cost a shitload of money and with a good operator like this one a 20t track machine and a platform is just as effective. Nicely done.

Hmm hooking your shiny new counterweight on the side of the car before you're even finished climbing in the first car is more of a rookie move. That pro. I'd also be more impressed if he could manage to stick out while walking backwards rather than just dragging his bucket along the ground.

How on earth could all the H&S regulations we have in the West today allow people to still do this? Massive risks here, no second chances - add to that - a completely unnnecessary risk to put your workforce through. The law is inconsistent.

this video was posted in 2012, it's now 2019. i can't imagine that this insanity is still going on now. i can't believe this kind of activity was allowed in 2012 at a location close to the Ft. Lauderdale airport. as a personal injury attorney, these are the kind of videos that end up as "Exhibit #1" in a worker's comp case or a wrongful death on the job case. no corporate CEO with half a brain would allow this kind of "ultra-hazardous" work-place practice. if a company had an operator in his mid-40's with a wife and a couple of kids and allowed this practice and the guy got killed, the jury or Court award would vastly outweigh any "equipment purchase and investment" that doing this job the "right way" would have cost.
@doug330205 жыл бұрын
So being a personal injury lawyer means you know all about operating an excavator? Can you please explain 'the right way' for us? I hope a plumber does your next colonoscopy!
@jimharvard5 жыл бұрын
@@doug33020 well, actually i have operated an excavator before as i am now retired and flip houses for something to do. i am not a "skilled operator" but i do have a good idea of how to run an excavator. as to why a "personal injury lawyer" would have any ability to comment on the above activity of unloading train cars as the video shows, my 30 years of training and experience as a lawyer allowed me to examine scores of cases where "bad things" happened to people doing "stupid stuff" - like the above train car video. any "safety officer" or "OSHA investigator" could list a page of safety violations on how the above operator was running this excavator. apart from the human tragedy of this operator getting killed or seriously injured from this STUPID work activity - i would LOVE to be the lawyer representing this guy if an accident did happen. one suggestion on a safe and "simple" way for this unloading operation to take place would be for two raised platforms to be constructed where the train car could run between the platforms allowing the excavator to be on a level plane when it was unloading each car. a cover plate could go be placed over each car by the excavator to sit on and this cover plate could be moved backward to each car to be unloaded. even if a cover plate wasn't used, having a raised platform on both sides of the train cars would remove the chance of the excavator toppling over. as this idiotic practice is being done, any slippage of either track off the side of the train car will result in an immediate falling of the excavator and probably serious injury to the operator. there isn't a lawyer in the entire United States that would advise the Corporate client to continue this practice.

It's the all too common "not thinking before opening the mouth " syndrome prevalent in the world today. One of the reasons social media and vid sites often suck, because the sheeple see a glimpse of something, don't understand it, then spout off about how "dumb" it is. The same sheeple never ask if it's a single-project set up or bid the costs involved in doing it otherwise. Rey, if it's so dumb, why not do the bidding for some transload sites and tell us all about it... smh.
