I started this 3 years ago. After dancing two sound cards i became Ill and. Abandoned project. Ended up learning about the NHS instead Hi 9 weeks inside , was interesting, i adapted plus the smart phone provided ham radio due to all these nodes with echolink. NHS has wireless access , once setup, it will work at any hospital in Wales.. After my Aorta valve replacement,i am back to normal. Only just beginning to get back to my past projects. Did get the hot spot pi star working well with dmr. I have 2 spare pi and a pi4. Cm108 audio board still have. Thanks for your info.

Great walkthrough!!! Keep it coming Personally I skip the port forwarding and public IP config, prefer not to have my network open to hackers. Unlikely to get hacked but why risk it. Drawback is nobody can connect to my node but I can connect outbound.

If you download Belena Etcher (free) it will write the images without having to unzip them at all, also it is available on Mac and Linux too. You could also use a higher power USB power supply (like RaspPi one and cut off the end and connect to RaspPi via GPIO and Radio via diodes too if you wanted. Just get a USB supply capable of 3A to be sure to have enough current. The advantage of 12v in is it also works in a car with Cigar lighter power or at home using 13.8v PSU.

Hi Ben great set of videos and you have inspired me to have a go at making one iv got all the bits now and have started the build but a quick question do you have to change the IP address from dynamic to static and can you leave the port at 222 ? I’m just at the stage where I’m go to power up the pi Dave thanks 🙏
@RadioRevG5REV
@RadioRevG5REV 3 жыл бұрын
You can use dynamic ip. Port 222 is the normal one. The reason I use static is that then the dynamic ip refreshes it might move, and can take time to track down again!
@brianreay4104
@brianreay4104 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben, a very good series of videos. A question, if I may. Can the software / system deal with changing IP addresses automatically- perhaps by using a dynamic DDNS service? You seem to manually enter your IP address which suggests this wouldn’t work. 73 Brian G8OSN
@RadioRevG5REV
@RadioRevG5REV 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. The only issue with a Dynamic IP is that when you go to log into supermon the IP may have changed, but if you listen on boot up, the node gives out the IP address. I use static so I can save all the settings and bookmark supermon, but you can go dynamic.

Power. You can use a power cable from your mobile to power the pi for programming reasons, but not to run the system. This saved on shorting the I out causing a dead pi.

Well I have been following and understanding the build so far, until......all the flicking between different computer inputs, port selection etc. I thought I was OK at using computers, but watching this made my head spin. Are you naturally good at programming etc. or was this a tough nut to crack for you in your build?
@wrxs1781

Mal, as you commented this was to fast to follow, but from what I saw it is overcomplicated, and don't us a PC with your banking information. The build I will complete, but going the way as explained on the video is not something a work from home guy would take a chance on. Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi, i have a raspberry pi 2 and it has a usb wifi dongle. how do i configure for it to connect to my wireless router? Thansk de DW8CFR Philippines
@RadioRevG5REV
@RadioRevG5REV 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don't know. If you look on Google it seems that not every WiFi dingle is Linux compatible, and an old article by hamvoip recommends two dongles in particular. Once installed, it's a simple case of going into putty, and setting up the SSID and Password then restarting. Hope that helps.

@@RadioRevG5REV thanks for the reply. İll get around it and in case i can't have the connection via wifi dongle attached to it, it would be best to have the LAN cable attached to it.

It looks like I cannot set up a static IP address for my raspberry pi because I have spectrum, are there options for this scenario?
@RadioRevG5REV
@RadioRevG5REV 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not too sure on this. The static IP is helpful, but not necessary. The only issue with a dynamic IP is that if the Pi is issued a different IP next time, then the port forwarding would need re doing. I would Google 'setting up a static IP when using xyz' where xyz is the make of your router. Let me know how you get on.
