As long as it’s square the steel ring should compress on the rubber , liquid nitrogen makes the rubber brittle while installing and can lead to failure while installing . And heat shouldn’t be needed as long as your tounge is in the right spot. 👍👍👍

Great work boys ! I was watching heavy sparks in the usa working on one of these trucks. The fuel lines are a problem , might pay to check them now in the shed .

Yeah we have had a number of fuel issues! A few years ago we re did the fuel lines and put in a standard fuel filter, plus an electric prime! Well worth it.

A cotter pin is what holds a bicycle crankshaft on its a split pin in Australia

If you put a line with a paint pen/ marker on the end of the pin where your split pin hole is, easier to line up the slot. Same for stering ball joints

We used to dig a hole and put dry ice in with the bushings or bearings for a few hour, then press them in. This was on old cat bulldozers. Although dry ice may not be available to you.

Its a bit hard to see from behind a keyboard I admit, but could you have supported the frame, and just removed the 4 bolts securing the bushing mount to the bottom of the axle housing then installed the tapered bolt and re-tightened the 4 axle housing securing bolts?
