That's amazing to see how you started off with Woody. A different bird to the one you video now. I need to find part 1 and 2 now.

I didn't expect him to be so loud. 😄 1 of my greys has done this from being a baby if he's frightened. It's really loud. He's 18 now. Im watching Woodys videos from the beginning. What a beautiful young hawk.

He was very wild at that point, fun times though. How many do you have , it must be lovely having African greys ,they are amazing. Glad you are having a look at some older videos. 😀

@freebirdofreason1994 I have 3. Hard work. Noisy. Messy but so entertaining and never a dull moment. It's like having naughty children somedays and they are very clever. I love them to bits. ❤️ I feed a lot of outdoor birds and started to get visits from both Male and female Sparrowhawks. I realised this is nature and they are beautiful birds so I will learn about them. Now I'm learning about the Harris hawks. Never seen 1 in person but they are gorgeous birds. I like how you've filmed right from the beginning with Woody.

Woody was so mad when you first walked into the room! Later on, you figured out that he would feel comfortable standing on your glove, but he wasn't comfortable enough to eat yet! And wow, you went into the mews 10 times? You must have lost count when you were narrating when you showed the number on the screen! There is a highly likely chance Woody could have eaten on the 2nd day if you took him inside your house where its quieter. As long as he had his concentration set 100% on the food, then he would have eaten! Also the element of surprise is at play here. As you know, a hawk never takes its eyes off its prey whenever it is scurrying nearby! Woody knows that since you are a big scary monster, he thinks you are playing the same role as the hawk. If you are looking at him too much, he will then look at you also to make sure that you aren't there to harm him! You already made too much eye-contact at the beginning. Whenever I see a wild hawk on a fence and I am only 15 feet away, I walk, and I never ever stop for even a brief second! I turn my head to the opposite direction. If I'm 30 feet away, then its safe to stop and look back at the hawk! Sometimes, I do throw pieces of raw meat (usually chicken livers) for the hawks, I keep them in a thermos. So far, only 2 hawks took my offerings, which was a Red Tailed Hawk and a Red Shouldered Hawk! That's a random fact you should know is that I don't watch hawks emptyhanded!

He was certainly not happy with the monster sitting with him, if I did it again I would do things slightly different, it was a fascinating time, lost of patience needed. I tried not to look but sitting in the presence of this majestic hawk is difficult at first. I think you done very well feeding wild Hawks , we have common buzzards here I love to see them, they always fly off even if I move in the field they sit in. Thanks for watching.

I am surprised at how mature Woody looks, I thought he would still be young enough to be more dependent on you. Was he hand reared ready for you? He is certainly a fine looking bird.
@freebirdofreason19944 жыл бұрын
He is fully grown, Woody is about 19 weeks, although will increase muscle, not hand reared as Harris hawks scream if imprinted on humans, always parents reared is best on Harris hawks . Been with parents up to 17 week then in open fronted mews for 2 weeks with his brothers. He would of been fun in the woods Dale, Cuckoo

did you use the lure for woodys first catch or did it just come to him ?
@freebirdofreason19944 жыл бұрын
I used rabbit lure in my garden but I'm sure its mainly natural. He caught the pigeon naturally. I guess lures help bring instinct forward and makes them keen and alert faster. Iv now dragged a real rabbit and he is straight on it, he has chased a couple since. Saturday I'm going to try flush some. Thanks for the question.
