Great job on the build. Just wondering if you have bent anything as it looks to be on the light side. By repositioning the lift point on the boom you increased mechanical advantage but reduced the lift height and slowed it also but also increased the lift capacity. I wouldn't suggest lifting a car engine without bracing the legs and trellising the boom. The motor here maybe your limiting factor though.

What did the motor come out of? where do you get a gearbox like that and how do you properly figure out the size needed? '

Well done Brent - really great build. Just one question / observation - Do you have an exhaust fan in your workshop? With the welding and then the painting not real good for your lungs in a confined space. I really enjoyed the videos though. I have some larger electric motors 1.5KW (3 phase) with reduction boxes already connected so I think I will try and replicate aspects of your build but for a gantry hoist. Thanks for the great instructional way you put it together.

Excellent, but I don't think it will manage a decent sized engine.
