I'm a mechanic for a John Deere dealership and we never break down tranny's. It's sad but people will pay for a new one or trade the whole lawnmower. Nice to see someone helping the helpless when it comes to JD..I applaud you sir!!

@@briansmobile1 what has bigger cylinder plungers the pump or the motor?
@Andrew-ep4kw
@Andrew-ep4kw Жыл бұрын
@@bcdoll01 Looked like the motor had the bigger cylinders, which makes sense. In a hydraulic system, a small cylinder feeding a large one is like a small pulley driving a large one, in both cases it gives mechanical advantage. Another way of looking at it is as a fluid reduction gear.

I inherited a JD L145 that a neighbor drove into Lake Palestine, mowing while intoxicated. So, I'm COMPLETELY rebuilding it. All my gears are good, I'm just thoroughly cleaning it all out. I used Royal Purple 5w20 in the engine BS 650cc. I'd post pics, but KZbin... Thanks, big bruh.

Excellent tear down and explanation my man. My craftsman uses the same transmission. Says in the manual there is no way to service (change fluids) which bothers me. I have 60 hours on it and will change the 5-50 oil to synthetic now that I know what it is. Good to know parts can be purchased separately in the future from the actual manufacturer vs almost $900 from Sears parts as an entire assembly. This is a great little transmission. Knowing how it works is part of knowing how to care for it and make it last. Thanks again for this insightful video.

This is a real good teaching tool. One note, my motor wedge block was wide side down and the Tuff Torque diagram shows the same with a drawing notation to ensure same. Ensure you note the orientation as you take your transmission apart. I take frequent photos as I disassemble devices rather than trust my memory. The photos have saved my bacon many times.

Always a good plan to take pictures. If you install that wedge upside down the trans will work the opposite way. Forward will be reverse and reverse will be forward. They make these in both operating directions.

I just posted on another video. I have a fix for the JD LT155/166 trans not working. This works on any with the 2 round pumps. Simply remove the round pump blocks and discard the small washer on the bottom. This allows the pump to resume its contact with the main pump block. The pump blocks wear over time. When the washer bottoms out, oil gets by the pump faces. I have 3 years on one with this fix and have done several other models with the round pumps. i switched to 5w-50w full synthetic oil. Enjoy your repair!!!

Great series of videos,Excellent detail. I'm currently at 811 hours on my L130 with the original 30W oil. So far the trans hasn't given me any problems, but since Ive been doing much needed repairs/upgrades to it before the season starts the least I can do is change the trans oil and filter.

Bryan I like your detail to attention. I have the trans. out and the spider gears are trashed. Don't see any other damage except the cooling fins are cut off on mine. I did get into trouble trying to remove the drain rubber and trashed it. Hope I can replace it.Also I can't tell if the magnet is in a sort of tray that comes out with it. They, the magnets did their job and may have been why I had this trouble.

It's such a nightmare to try an work on a project that somebody else has already opened and incorrectly assembled. Bravo to you for the extra effort to show us all how it goes together. Maybe I missed it. The pump moves oil around, but what does that little electric motor do?

I got an L110 tore down to this point thanks to your video. Mine just whines and won't move on any unlevel surface forward or backward. What should I be looking for exactly? My spider gears look wore a little bit but I don't see any sharp or broken teeth. Could a little ware be the issue? Thanks

Thanks for the wonderful video, I have the same gearbox in our lawn mower, that started making strange noises just before starting up, I broke down the gears and could not find anything, except that behind the two springs (in this video time 13:44) I have got 2 bullets, and lo and behold, the machine is running, but upside down, when I push the pedal forward, it runs backwards, and when I press the pedal back, it runs forward. No ball is shown on your video, do you need a ball in there? Can this also hang together with the direction of rotation? I have no other explanation for that.

I have a craftsman with a K-46 trans. it had a broken bearing and a motor plate(triangular). I purchased replacements and took the shaft gears out and cleaned the housing. After putting all the parts together again the tractor runs fast in reverse and slow going forward also the neutral does not work (always in drive mode). Any help will be much appreciated.

I bought a JD with the loss of power issuer, the previous owner replaced the pumps and what not... there was still loss of power, i tore apart the transaxle and noticed the washer part #39. Do you know if that was missing if it would cause a loss of power? Motor and pump seem to be in good condition, gears are a little worn, but wash was missing. any thoughts?

I have an L120 with less than 300 hours that is also having transmission issues. it jerks on load or turning right or left. I did remove the transmission and changed the oil but did not go as far as you did bc I felt I would not be able to do it. The ol change did not resolve the issue.

Is there a forum where people discuss the symptoms so we can figure out what parts we need? Obvious gear wearage aside. How do you know if your pump other anything else that is sealed is bad? Its one thing to tear it down then find out which parts you need this could take a while in shipping time. Also one hates to reinstall everything just to find out they did not fix the problem. How can you tell whats exactly wrong?

my l130 rear end needs rebuild. Transaxle gets warm an it jus stops. I'm assuming the pump or motor is bad but I've got it apart an there's no play in the plungers on the motor or pump side. so the only other thing I can come up with is the center section of the pump an motor is bad. but I can't find the right rebuild kit.

I have a John Deere L-120 with auger on it and during this winter i notice when i put my foot on the reverse it goes slow. let's say i am backing up and not even a real incline but it stops so what i do is rock my body and then it might move. If not i go forward a foot or two then reverse and even though it's slow i can make it. Got any ideas.

They're two separate links in the same chain. If the pump or the motor are worn- the symptoms are the same. One harness' power from the belt (pump) the other delivers power to the drive shafts (motor).
