It is amazing how perfect Paul Stanley is. And when you collaborate with him, you are told your contribution was "fragments of ideas" and he did all of the work. I aspire to live in the perfect Paul Stanley world, like he does.

I think his overall assessments are correct. He was the one true leader. He did do most of the work- especially, after 1982, even being Producer(!) He was the only one left after Lick it Up, as Gene went to Hollywood.. I can't blame Paul for his attitude. I'm no boot licker of Paul's, but I can see that the band was his life and he gave 100 24/ 7.. No one can say that about Ace, Peter, or Gene. Paul's an idiot sometimes yeah but there would be no KISS without HIM

Same here. I was 7 years old, and I remember seeing a commercial for KISS ALIVE II. I had no idea who or what KISS was, but I had to have that album! That was pretty much my introduction to music. I used to just sit and stare at the pictures on that album. They blew my mind.
@keithm.66506 күн бұрын
I was 6 also. My parents got it for me as the free album for buying 10 Columbia House records. Remember those? Parents were gone, knock at the door, I knew not to open but I saw it was the mailman. When I opened the door, he looked down at me and slowly handed it to me. Like he presented it to me knowing my life was about to change forever. I ran inside and threw that baby on and...You wanted the best! Hooked right then and there. I'm in my early 50s. Been drumming and touring in bands for years. Thanks KISS!!

Without Peter Criss I would have never become a drummer. He sold me on playing the drums. I thought I was his biggest fan he was an inspiration and Idol to me. I thought his drumming and fills were genius and I still do. He had such a raw power with a unusual style of playing tribal drums with killer down Beats. He would Incorporated up-tempo Bebop kind of grooves. A lot of that stuff came from his love of Gene Krupa and Max Roach

Peter is actually really good as a rock/metal drummer. people knock on him unnecessarily like if he's bad or a detriment. he was on fire on the first 6 albums and the 2 alive albums.

So, now here comes Kiss's second studio album. It was much heavier and more raw than the first album. Unfortunately, it didn't fair much better than the first. But, as a diehard Kiss fan I really liked it. Kiss' sound at this point reminded me of a mixture between Black Sabbath and the Beatles, a heavy metal Beatles, if you will. My favorite song is on Hotter Than He'll, Parasite. There really isn't a bad song on the entire album. Because of the fact that they're four unique characters and their names, I always thought of them as heavy metal's version of the Beatles.
@kevinchandler1795 ай бұрын
I agree kinda!!! The first album was amazing, it just didn't sell because everyone was interested in their live shows!!! Black Diamond, Strutter, Deuce, Cold Gin, 100 thousand years, and Firehouse!!! That was a very good album and underappreciated!!!
@charlied75719 ай бұрын
8:13 Ace Frehley was the final piece of the puzzle the THREE of you had been looking for only months prior to the recording of this album. He may not be the sole reason KISS was a success, but he was the one that knew what to do with a song like "She" (and others) and it had nothing to do with flute and brass in the solo!

Ace was great, but Peter was amazing and fantastic as well, they were the best in the original lineup period 👌

Kiss's most raw and riff heavy album, not nearly as campy as some of Kiss's other 70's releases. The production is on par with The New York Dolls, Iggy and the Stooges and similar proto punk albums from the time period. I still listen to Hotter than Hell, front to back, to this day, and it's def my favorite Kiss album from the classic line up.

What were they supposed to do? Keep around members who could not or would not deal with their drug and alcohol shit at the time? I love the ‘old’ kiss lineup as much as anyone. Distinctive sound and players, but you wouldn’t run a business with unreliable workers and you can’t have a band when the members don’t show up.

One of my top 3 Kiss records. Raw but still melodic. I used to think Gene and Paul were jerks but I have come around to their POV. They were in it for the long haul and were willing to put in the work. Peter and especially Ace made major contributions but without Gene and Paul Kiss does not become a huge success. Gene and Paul would and have succeeded with other guitarists and drummers.
@joesantamaria58742 жыл бұрын
Respectfully disagree. Peter was a fine drummer, but could have been any number of good players. Ace, on the other hand, has a very unique tone and style, and I find I can hum his solos nearly note for note to this day. Like Clapton before him and Van Halen subsequently, he improvises and composes very memorable melodies.

Paul talks differently in these narrations than he does in interviews or audio clips from the early days. With the early stuff you can really hear the kind of "street" New York accent. Here, he sounds more like, "Mr. Intellectual ". It's weird. Just an observation.
