Part 48: Valve Gear Problems and Sealing the Cylinders

Welcome to Part 48 of my long term series of videos covering the build of Don Young's Hunslet 0-6-0 Saddle Tank Locomotive in 5" Gauge.
In this video, I show the issues I've encountered with the Valve Gear before going on to make some gaskets, fit the Piston Packing and seal up the Cylinder blocks.
Given the nature of these sorts of projects, new videos will be posted as I progress through the build but there will be no regular cadence, rather their frequency will be dependent upon time available and of course real progress on my part.

Nice Work! Looking forward for compressed Air test.... Never seen a Packing as a Piston Ring.... but why not..... Stay healthy!

Hi your glad packing ends should be cut on a 45 degree angle to stop straight line blow by, and gland packing should not be spiral round the shaft, again should be single rings 45 degree cut ends and ring ends stagger to stop blow by. Sorry to say but as an engineer with lots of years under my belt if you are going to do it do it right first time if not it will leak.

All feedback is welcomed David. I understand your point on the piston packing, but for the gland are you saying that I should use thicker packing (cross section). Clearly the yarn I'm using is too thin to cut at an angle. Cheers Mark
