we do this stuff every day - I just want to acknowledge your very precise videos and excellent attention to details. You are clearly very talented at such a young age and its great to see. Thank you.

I am a fan of all your videos. This M54 series is great because nobody else is providing a detailed step by step tear like you are providing. Can't wait to see your channel grow. The time you and your girlfriend spend filming and editing shows in the quality of the videos. I was so excited when you announced your move to Alhambra as that is my hometown. Should my e46 need work that can't be DIY I will be contacting you in the future.

Thank you Jason! That was great to watch. There is something about the moment when someone removes a camshaft. Haha I don't know what it is. My wife was looking at me saying "what is so important that you are ignoring me?" So I'm like "Shhhhh..Jason's about to remove the camshaft!" LOLOL. Anyway you two keep up the great work! I will be looking fwd to the next one bro!

Nice videos! Thumbs up :) One thing that struck me. I think it´s recomended to loosen the headbolts in reverse order from tightening sequence, not from center and out. At least my Bentley says so for m52 :)
@waclosh7 жыл бұрын
Fredrik Rapp you are right. If he did unbolt everything from center to sides, it would definitely get warped/damaged.

The m52 is very similar to the m54, so most of what I show will apply to your engine as well.

These are dope you should do one more for a working 330 convertible engine or if you did this for a transmission it would be great too.

The smaller bolts from vanos area you removed are they stretch type bolts as are the 14? And do i need to replace them or they can be re used?
@lorenzobeckmann37366 жыл бұрын
2001 M54, 330i, I saw other videos where it was said, "If the camshaft bearing jounals are scored, you a new head". Especially the frontmost where is oil retainer "piston ring", a metal expansión ring wiping on a metal hounal, is located. Every time I see the camshaft come out of one of these staight six motors I want to see this área to detect wear. I Heard that @2008 BMW started with phenelik (sp) rings to prevent the rapid wearing of that oil seal application. Pleasee show this in some future video. And witth no other damage to the head, other tan clean up and perhaps reflattening via Stone planer, compare the Price of new camshafts and bearing blocks to buying a much newer complete head. You do great work----Folks like you is to who the World belongs.

love your videos, I would like to see you remove a cylinder head and install it all back to normal.

Great quality as usual. I'm doing a head gasket replacement and I've got all the head bolts out, intake removed, headers detached (from the bottom, I plan on pulling the head out with the headers) but the head still won't even budge. I don't know what else is holding it down. Any ideas?
@rainvillecreative54103 жыл бұрын
Other guides say to start with the outer head bolts and work your way inwards, I did it the opposite way and wound up with a head warped 5 thousandths despite no head gasket issues or overheating. I hope it doesn't matter, but I wonder where the logic comes from.
@DjDestinyChicago6 жыл бұрын
I have to do this on my X5 with the same motor. It’s not overheating, but has coolant disappearing. My question is.. how often do the threads come out with the head bolts?? I’m real worried about, I actually had a dream about it lol
@patricwell83352 жыл бұрын
Im working on one right now. I found it hard to believe i gotta drop the frame to swap.out the engine...do to my lack of space i was thinking. If i remove the converters and passenger engine mount bracket. Would that give me enough room to swing the engine to the right to pass the front dif to pull the engine upward

so since you don't have to lock the flywheel I'm guessing it's automatic. is there something else you need to do to lock the flexplate
@gegervary7 жыл бұрын
I am just curious to know why do you need to go only a quarter turn at the time for a3 and a5 for example...?
@jacobbudd77366 жыл бұрын
gegervary it to loosen the cam evenly. The valves are putting pressure against the cam shaft and if you don’t loosen them in steps you can bend the shaft

To get the head studs off I had to use a grinder to grind down the socket.
@rainvillecreative54103 жыл бұрын
Is it possible to remove the timing chain cover, pop the timing chain off the crank, and remove the head with cams and vanos chain still attached? This won't require retiming and would be way easier, especially in my case where I'm just checking the head gasket and bottom end.
@infamousfamous33513 жыл бұрын
I’m also waiting for an answer 🤯
@rainvillecreative54103 жыл бұрын
@@infamousfamous3351 The only reason I can think of since doing my rebuild is that the timing cover needs to go back on before the head, otherwise you'll get a leak.This isn't possible with the head left fully assembled. Also, the timing job isn't too bad- just need the $100 tool.
