I agree, i was reading up and i found a couple of documentarys about the sport but i never found anything "real". I have been wanting hawks for two years now and i had a kestrel recently as a little release project. Can't wait to get one !

Missed this vid somehow. You are bonding well. Very exciting to see, love it. You'll have to show us the falconry knot....

The editing was arranged differently than your previous videos. The pictures of Woody didn't seem to match what was going on, since they occurred on different occasions. That's just my opinion. Also, at 0:33, you showed that hood, which is also why I didn't watch this months ago. Everything seemed to go alright as far as your bonding goes. He hasn't been accustomed to being outside and now that he's in a different environment, he was mantling and spreading out his tail while on your glove. Even after you set him down on the perch and you were 5 feet away, it didn't change Woody's reaction. Later on at sunset, he settled down and it looked like you were ready to fall asleep right in your chair with him! If that were me, I'd say to Woody, "sure, lets sleep right there"! The manning process is a big deal to me! I would be thinking about it while I sleep, that's for sure! I liked how you explained that you gave Woody a piece of rabbit! The food item was perfect, that's the kind of prey that I like seeing a hawk eat, that's for sure! A lot of Falconers don't even note what food item they give to their hawks. I feel those details are important because it gives everyone an idea how much variety you give to Woody. Believe me, there's some people out there that limit their hawks to just 2 or 3 items!

When I am editing it really takes me a while, remember I'm also learning to edit whilst I try to document my journey here which hasn't been done in detail, I searched all channels trying to get information before getting my HH . This I thought may help someone, although I'm no teacher and try to just show my experience and thoughts . I was extremely tired during the manning process, I was constantly thinking Hawk, a little stressed I'd say, if I ever train another I may do things slightly differently. As I say I'm learning here , Woody was learning, it would have been easier not to document it. As I said in the creance video I make mistakes not Woody. I am glad you like the documenting the food I feed here, I think alot about the feed it very important, Thank you for watching.

When you said "mistakes" on your end, are you talking about the time Woody flew on your head after you set the camera down? Perhaps you could have waited longer before documenting the creanse training. It would have still been documented anyways even if it was the 10th time Woody flew to your glove. I remember the 1st day you got Woody and he had made calls at you and mantled as soon as you walked inside his mews. At first you set the camera inside the mews to see if he would eat, but then set the camera outside behind the bars of the window. That didn't work out so well either. In Woody's eyes, your camera is just an object in his way. But....that's not the way I see it! Over time, any object becomes as obvious as everything else around Woody, such as the trees, the grass, and the buildings! If I were the guy filming Woody, I would have set the camera in the mews and left it there, even if I wasn't filming him at the time. If that had happened, there is the possibility Woody could have eaten sooner. But...it doesn't really matter because birds of prey live a feast or famine lifestyle. Its okay for Woody to be "slightly" hungry, because his hunger differs from ours! The bond of trust would have remained the same afterwards, but there would have been less stress involved, that's all.

@@JeremyThePlayer88 The mistakes are just that, the camera, looking to much at him, or having a big rabbit leg visible whilst I’m try to put woody on the perch during creance training. Your correct about the camera, it would have been better placed permanently if possible, I now have GoPro and camera also so slightly better. I had the door open to film the first time in, I felt better if it were closed from then on as he tried to fly out . He doesn’t like to see is reflection in the lens of the camera very much which is interesting.

I'd say the biggest mistake was the fact that you were trying to do 2 things at once. As soon as Woody saw that rabbit leg, you should have known to give it to him straight away! Most juvenile hawks will react defensively at a reflection. I did watch this video last year of a juvenile Red Shouldered Hawk doing this at a water hole! Here it is. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jX_TanqijZt7d80. Also there's quite a few other videos I've seen of this behavior as well! Over time, these hawks don't notice what's in the water and just bathe or drink out of it! One thing I can note is, only corvids, which are crows, ravens, blue jays and magpies, can successfully pass the mirror test!

@@JeremyThePlayer88 Thank you I will look at the video link, yes a big mistake with having the rabbit leg in my hand whilst trying to position the hawk for the next creance flight. I'm glad I filmed my progress it's good to see the mistakes it's how we learn , at the time I was caught in the moment of not realizing he wouldn't just sit on the perch , I had the leg behind my back This mistake I realized was him looking in the reflection of the conservatory, he did it as he got older whilst I thought he couldn't see behind my back , but the clever hawk knows more than I realise.
