Very good video. Too the point without a lot of stammering and wasting time. One suggestion. If providing separations to a commercial screenprinter, it is imperative to add an alignment symbol on each layer. And since all separations are printed in black always include the color the layer is to be printed in. Otherwise you either get an annoyed look from your screenprinter, or the job is wrong, you end up in a fight over who's going to pay for the reprint, and then you have to find a new screenprinter. Otherwise, good job.

how would this work for an image/picture that has many colours not just two? I presume you'd need to convert to 4 colours (not sure you'd want to print more then four screens)

when you used the triangle tool to get rid of the dotted lines, how did you do it ?
@NateScreenPrints19 жыл бұрын
hallieshouse13 you just have to clock somewhere off to the side to release it. the dotted lines let you know its is selected. by clicking anywhere else it lets go of what is selected.

Very helpful, Nate! Could you tell me how you would approach "halftones" with this method? I am referring to one color fading into another color, or fading out. Could Gimp do color separation for halftones fairly easily or would another software be necessary? Thank you, N
@NateScreenPrints18 жыл бұрын
Halftones in screenprinting can be achieved through hatching and transitioning a solid color section to dotted. If you look at some screen printed tees you can see them using this method to make it looks like the shirt was printed with more colors than it really was, and its good for shadowing. GIMP does have the ability to do this, but i would recommend finding some tutorials on youtube, i have not done enough of this to be much help.

whoa... not ready to print. you need trappings between those layers. also, you can do all of this in photoshop much more easily
@jarodwaybright80747 жыл бұрын
Can you explain what is trappings? I'm curious!
@philipmuller907 жыл бұрын
traps or trappings are an area of overlap between print positions that allow for those positions to be slightly out of register with one another without leaving a gap between their edges. not all designs need them, but i think this one would. see link for more info--> www.graphics.com/article-old/print-production-fundamentals-trapping
@undrwateranarchy5 жыл бұрын
Trappings can be done relatively easily in Inkscape (another open source vector graphic software) as well. The problem with Photoshop is the recurring cost, which could be a hardship for those just starting out. Better to start simple, gain confidence, learn, then figure the tools you need to spend on.

@outkastsk8er2011 жыл бұрын
Gimp = fail at color separating. There's more to color separating for shirt printing than just cutting out colors. Good luck trying to line this job up without setting any trapping lines. Also, by adjusting the threshold to extract your design, you've just ruined the detail of your original artwork. Whatever method floats your boat I guess...
