Great video chocked full of excellent DMR information. Thanks for taking the time to record this for the amateur radio world. I am new to DMR although I have been an amateur radio operator for 65 years. I plan on purchasing the Anytone 878 uvii Plus in the coming weeks and am eager to join the ranks of DMR operators. This video was very helpful to me in understanding the Optional Settings of the CPS. Prior to watching your video scrolling through that section of the CPS was like reading hieroglyphics!

I just Updated my Anytone 878UV Plus to version 3.02n and My GPS now gets a signal within 2 minutes of turning it on. Update your radio and give it a try. I am super happy now that they have fixed it.

I would love for you to cover the auto repeater tab on the optional settings. I would also love to know in the programming guide how you an get the offset to change the transmit automatically based on freq. Great stuff. and Thanks for the video!

I am not really sure. I usually just program my offset in. I'll have to dig into that a little and see what I can find out. I should have some time in the near future to start getting back into filming some videos.

Great video. I learned quite a bit. I look forward to the digital monitor video and I would really like to see a video on the settings for just the D578 radio. Thanks for what you do.

Hi. Thanks for your great video. I have an AT-D878UVII-Plus. Do you know where I can get a list of detailed definitions or explanations of what each of the couple dozen terms/options for the 5 programmable buttons do? The 48 page paper manual does not provide much to define those terms or the best use of each of those programable button functions. I understand that the programming of those P buttons depend on the primary uses of the radio, such as using repeaters vs. hotspot; using mostly digital vs. analogue; traveling or stationary. I hope someone can come up with the most helpful programming of these buttons for each of these use scenarios. 73

Hello Ron! Great info in this video, as always. I've been having a problem this last week that I would like to solicit your help on. It's the DISPLAY TAB I think I need to focus on. Both my wife and I have the same 878uv radio. On my CPS, I go to comport/write to radio. When I transmit in DMR, my name, callsign come up on the [secondary] display when transmitting. Then shows [B] last call sign, [B] last group and [B] last caller] on the main display, but turning the radio off, then turning it on again, the display does NOT show my callsign, DMR number or any of my info. I have updated my CPS AND the firmware to 3.02, as well as initialize the radios. Still no info on the display. I just checked into my local DMR net tonight, no display info. In my CPS these are the settings I have in the "optional settings" display tab: optional settings/display/last caller "both". call display mode "name based". display current contact "on". Is there someplace else in the optional settings that I should look to eliminate the problem? The radios are not saving the info somehow. Never had this happen before. What am I missing? Many thanks for taking the time to respond! Vry 73 de Joaquin

I'd like to have a closer look at the "mini" device you show at about 1:04.
@rahnabbott3744
@rahnabbott3744 3 жыл бұрын
Viola, that is an ATEM Mini produced by BlackMagic Design. I have since upgraded to an ATEM Mini Pro. Search on KZbin for ATEM Mini, ATEM Mini Pro, and you will find tons of videos about them. They also make an ATEM Mini Pro ISO, and just released is an ATEM Mini Extreme.

@@rahnabbott3744 I know it's a little off-topic relative to HAM radio, but I'd like to see the rest of your setup for video production. Thank you for the reply. I'll be looking at the ATEMs.

@@yourpersonalmythology I don't have it all set up at the moment. As you can tell, I haven't posted a video since Sept. LOL. The setup was pretty basic. I had a couple cameras, and old Panasonic, and a Canon HF R700 that were both being fed into the ATEM mini. The ATEM mini was controlled by a run of the mill office style laptop. Then I had a second laptop that I was running my software on that I could send the screen out over HDMI to the ATEM mini. It was all recorded on the first laptop and edited there and uploaded to KZbin. When I get a second I will post a video of what I have going on.

I have an 878UV+ manufactured in Feb of 2020 and it routinely takes 45 minutes or more to get a lock if it ever does get one. I guess the Plus means additional time waiting on GPS lock.

I enjoyed this video. It cleared up several things for me. I have a question about the record option refered to on page 34 section 7.8 of the users manual. They mention an option to increase the total record time from 10 hours to 500 hours and the capability to record both analog and digital audio. how can I tell if my AT-D878 UVII Plus has this option, and if it does not have it how can I add the option?
@W7DOAatHamRadio
@W7DOAatHamRadio 2 жыл бұрын
It should have that option. I believe it's in one of the menu options at the top. I have my last kid going off to college shortly and I should be able to get my studio back and I'll start digging into some of these topics more.

where do I set the time out when transmitting in analog mode
@W7DOAatHamRadio
@W7DOAatHamRadio 3 жыл бұрын
That setting can be found in the "Optional settings" section of the CPS and look under the "Other" tab. Right near the top it will say "TOT" That stands for "Time Out Timer". Set that to how many seconds you want your radio to transmit before reaching the Time Out limit. Additionally, on the right side of that same scream there is an option for TOT Predict. This will give you a beep 5 seconds before hitting the TOT limit. Letting you know you've rambled on long enough and to get off the mic. Haha.

HI.... how to exclude "miss call" prompt?
@W7DOAatHamRadio
@W7DOAatHamRadio 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know how to completely exclude it. In the Optional Functions area, under the "Alert" tab you can turn off the alert tone. Additionally, in the Digital Functions tab you can filter your own ID from the missed call. So you won't get a missed call alert when you are checking the parrot talk group. But it won't stop the notification from other callers trying to contact you.

So here is a question with optional settings.... Is there a way to export the optional settings? I say this because I was using N0GSG Contact Manager and took my good working codeplug and then copy and pasted a zone from another codeplug I had made to merge into my good known working codeplug. All was good but each time, it loses my optional settings. I am only pasting in a zone and nothing else from the ther instance of N0GSG Contact Manager. It's nice to use Contact Manager to do this and would still save me time even if I had to rework my optional settings but I would prefer not to do that.
@W7DOAatHamRadio
@W7DOAatHamRadio 4 жыл бұрын
I will have to download N0GSG and try it. I just looked through the export list and I don't see a way to export the Optional Settings on their own. I will try N0GSG and see if I can recreate it.
@W7DOAatHamRadio
@W7DOAatHamRadio 4 жыл бұрын
So I didn't copy and paste another zone into N0GSG. But I had to export from the Anytone CPS into a DCF file in order for N0GSG to read it. I then added a zone and saved it back as a rdt file. Loaded it and all my optional settings stayed the same. So I can't recreate it. I don't have another code plug to copy and paste a zone from. I will keep working on it and if I can recreate it and find a fix, I will post a solution back here. That's the best I can do at the moment.

@@W7DOAatHamRadio thanks so much for your efforts, why I love the ham community. After further detailed research it was only three tabs in the options that changed. When I get back home I'll respond but one of the tabs was the custom key programming as well as the display tab where colors for screen are set.
