In part eight of this wildfowl carving demonstration, Laurie continues the burning of the feather barbs on a Blue-winged Teal drake wing, using a wood burner. Laurie offers wood burning tips and wildfowl carving insight throughout the demonstration.

Hi Laurie. I carve (relief, in-the-round) but have never used a wood burning pen before. And I have not watched the other videos in this series, so please forgive me if this is a newbie question and/or was already addressed elsewhere. But while you are burning, your hand and pen go off camera periodically. In my mind, I equate this to placing a soldering iron on a wet sponge to 'clean' the tip. Are you doing something similar (or cooling the tip, or allowing the tip to re-heat), or is it just my overactive imagination?
