Thanks Tom! That little technique gives the feather so much definition and life. It's amazing how easily the eye can be fooled. In a good way of course. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Thanks Tom! It looks like you could feel those wrinkles if you were to run your hand over the decoy. Thanks for the demonstration.

Tom, I was an avid collector of Competition Magazine from Wildfowl carving from 1992 - 2006 and was amazed at how many of your decoys were strewn throughout the issues .Good for you. When did you lose the cool mustache? You wore it well.I don't see it now in your videos unless it's silver like your hair nowand I just don't see it. Keep the videos coming - they are the best . Chris

I lost the mustache when it started to turn gray Chris! 😁. Proud of those pics in the Competition Magazine over many years. Thanks for the note.

Tom, I noticed in some of your videos you utilize a paint stick/holder.Where did you get the handles for the paint sticks. I have similar ones from Ace hardware but they no longer seem to have the heavy duty ones.I got them years ago at a decoy show.I am particularly referencing the one you used in the Wigeon painting video with Wildfowl Carving.

I think I got a file handle from a hardware store and combined that with some hardware I had. I’ve had it a long time but I’ve got to think you can still do the same.

Hi Tom I Really Like your videos, I carve mostly fish and Ive done a couple ducks (not very well) but I intend to start doing more in the future. I have a question, I notice you use gesso in some of your paint vs just white paint? Is there an advantage or reason? after sealing I use gesso as a base before I paint my fish carvings but Ive never thought of using it to mix with regular acrylics as a pigment.

Great question Danny. I use a lot of white and have over time gone to mixing my own vs. buying a lot of tubes of Titanium White, Warm White, etc. I buy the Gesso in a large container and use it as a white base for mixing warmer and cooler shades of white. It also has good coverage properties so I use it for a lot of mixes, as you noticed.

@@tomchristieart that makes sense. I go through a lot of white myself but buy gesso in quart bottles. Think I’ll be trying gesso with color pigments on my next project. Thanks for the reply. I may be attempting a wood duck soon so Ill probably be purchasing your video on a drake wood duck.
