How to Plant & Grow Onions in the Philippines?
A Step-by-step Procedure in Planting Onions (Pag-Pupunla)
1 can of seedling = (400 grams)
It takes 40 - 45 days before transplanting.
※Pre-prepation of the soil※
»Before preparing the plot bed, plow the land after plowing, broadcast the organic manure, and harrow it in order to blend together with the soil. This technique will help the plant for better growth.
※Onions Maintenance※
Spray :
● Herbicide → (Oneside & Ronstar) after 12 days from planting spray these combinations to kill the weeds. Do this twice in 1 and a half months. When weeds start to show, use this pesticide.
📏 Measurement :
In 16 liters of sprayer add 20ml Ronstar & 30ml Oneside.
● Fungicide → Wildkid (insecticide) / Torogi & Cabrio (Fungicide) after 15 days from planting, spray these combination. Do this twice in 1 and a half months.
📏 Measurement:
In 16 liters of the sprayer, add 30ml Wildkid, 40ml Torogi, and 20ml Cabrio.
Fertilizer :
On the 25th day, fertilized it with 14-14-14 readily nutrients needed for the growth of seedlings.
📏 Measurement:
Dissolve the fertilizer with water, then spray it to the seedlings, once done. Sprinkler it with water only.
For every 1 can of seedling, you need 3.75kg of 14-14-14. Dissolve this in 20liters of water.

Planting and growing onions in the Philippines is considered a gold mine by our dear farmers. HAHAHA! A reality check that, agriculture farming in the Philippines doesn’t receive much attention from the authorities. We plant to live. We provide food on the table of every Filipinos but, our worth is not that just respected. Why? High prices of fertilizer, insecticides, diesel for our pump, and so much more. Under those circumstances, we can merely sell our crops at a very rock-bottom price. Living in the Philippine countryside is not just about simple life with fresh air and a relaxing atmosphere. You’ll also experience the struggles of little resources. That’s the reason why onion farming is a gold mine to us. It provides us hope to sustain and support our expenses all throughout the dry seasons. Okay… back into farming details. If you are planning to produce onions, we hope that this content helps you, by providing you a guide for onion production through the farmer's way.
Bulb onions grow properly in friable and well-drained soil with good water-absorbing capacity. Onions are very sensitive in too much cold as well as in heat. You can start to plant onion seeds as early as October or November or as late as January. Then you can transplant the onions 40-45 days (you can check this in our part II video • Part II: A Step-by-ste... )
