Welcome back to Mehls Mountain Garage! In part two of this video series, the Mehl's attempt to get the 1956 Chevy Bel Air Convertible running. This car has been completely restored, frame off. The top and interior and not in it yet since it was outside under a car tent. The engine is a 265 cid V8 with a powerglide. There are a few updated bits, like LED taillights, and the OEM radio has been gutted with modern electronics installed, including Bluetooth. The camera is a lot of handheld, so sorry for the shaky cam.
Now, this engine has zero miles on it, just break-in time for the cam and to set the timing. It has sat few a few years since, and DID NOT want to start. After fighting with it, you'll see in the video, we got it running only to discover that the valves were sticking bad, and pulled rocker arm studs loose in the cylinder head, even bending a few pushrods.
We pressed the studs back down and got it running just to move it. Later on, Grey Bush pulled the press in studs, and threaded and installed screw in studs. He had to get the valves free in the guides. I also used a piston stop to find true TDC and adjust the timing pointer.
If you like the video, please help out by smashing the subscribe, and maybe even the like or unlike. All comments are welcome! I am slowly getting better at shooting video so things will only get better, and working on getting someone else to hold the camera when we are doing projects.
