Thanks for this video. I had a NAPIT registered spark install downlights and a LED bathroom cabinet a few months ago and he said he didn't need to issue me with anything. I see now that a MWC and Building Control notification was required. Hoping to follow up with him tomorrow to get this in order.

So glad it has helped Mo. Unfortunately many sparkies can't be bothered completing the paperwork and rely on the fact that most customers don't know what paperwork they should have. There should always be a certificate of some kind for every job. As a last resort you can always contact NAPIT yourself and ask them to make him issue a certificate etc. They always follow up customer issues. Google their phone number.

A lot are confused. It is never taught properly in colleges, always treated as something to talk about if there is time - yet a certificate is a legal requirement, an official bit of paper that can be produced in a court of law. Glad it helped. More videos on part P coming soon. Dave.

It is my understanding that the standard electrical installation certificate from the IET has now been changed since the A2 2022 amendment to the regs. It is now only four pages long, not five... is this correct?
@learnelectrics4402 Жыл бұрын
Its five pages if you include the guidance notes for the client. Thanks for watching.

Very very good information dave 👍 wish I knew about this years ago as I’ve used an unregistered spark and got no certificates at all 😭 going through the process of getting the work that was done re done bit by bit , by a proper registered sparks for peace of mind.and when the time comes ,to be able to sell the house hassle free 🤯 can I ask does changing a ceiling Rose (plastic pendant) to a decorative light fitting need to be done by a sparks and a certificate issued ?,, I know there are many diyers that won’t and put them up regardless, and the same for downlights if say they were already installed but replaced to newer led downlights same hole and fire rated ,does this also need to be done by a sparks and certified , cheers again dave the videos and information you are giving out is brilliant 👍👍

Glad we can help. Many DIYers will change the ceiling rose themselves and are competent enough to do it. Who is going to make a DIYer fill in a certificate, and do they know what to do to fill one in. This article was discussing if an electrician did the work, then a certificate is required in order to comply with the Regs. The certificate also covers the electricians bottom, they have a certificate copy that says exactly what they did and which rooms. The best way to look at it is ... the Electricity at Work Regulations apply to electricians because they are working but not to homeowners, because electrical work is not their job. Hope this helps. Dave.

@@learnelectrics4402 cheers dave 👍👍yea like you say a diyer isn’t going to do a certificate 😂 and yes I get the covering bottoms ie insurances etc. Keep the videos coming 👍👍

I had some electrical work carried out last September, but I am still waiting for Part P to be issued - my electrician claims he carried this out at the time. I have chased him for it, but he no longer responds. I'm selling my house and naturally keen to get hold of Part P for my buyers. Can I access this doc online, if so, on which site is it located please. I have tried searching ... Thank you ....

Was the electrician with a trade organisation such as NICEIC, ELECSA, STROMA, NAPIT. If he was and you have his name and address then contact their head office and they will prompt him to reply. If he was not registered then he shouldn't have been doing Part P work and claiming he could certify it. If he wasn't registered your only option is to get a REGISTERED sparky to carry out a Periodic Inspection and issue an EICR. This is extra cost but the only option. Buyers solicitors will accept an EICR Check the sparky is registered, they all carry a badge with their registered number on it. If they can't show you this when they give you a quote, then find someone else. Even photograph the badge on your phone. If they don't like that, find someone else.

@@learnelectrics4402 Thank you so much for your quick and detailed response. Appreciated. The electrician issued the EICR report at the time. Work carried out included new sockets, electrical work in new kitchen, spot lights, outside lights; nothing major. Maybe the EICR report is sufficient. I just don't want my house sale to be delayed should part P be required so I will look into this further. Thanks again Tracey

Is it acceptable to install a new light in a laundry room with PIR light (no light switch) only? Thank you :)
@learnelectrics44023 жыл бұрын
How do you isolate it if you need to clean it etc. without turning all the circuit off. What if the light goes faulty and stays on, how do you turn it off without killing all the lights. It's not good practice to not have a separate switch, see Chapter 46 in the Regs.

A second light in a bathroom providing its above 2.25 meters, enclosed (ip65) & protected by an RCD, is not notifiable.
@learnelectrics44023 жыл бұрын
If it's a bathroom with a high ceiling then I agree, but many bathrooms are just on the limit. Thanks for the input.
