These videos have made my day. I absolutely adore cavalier caravans, have done since being a young child and always thought I would never have one, but I am now in possession of a 1979 460GTS in almost nearly original condition. I think it's only the curtains that are not original and they gas bottle box. The plastic underneath is still pristine, the folding step is working, paloma water heater, fridge and heater. Full cooker and oven. It even still has the cavalier smell. Thanks for sharing this. There is not many of these and on the rally scene and I get so excited when I do see one.

@@caravanindustryexpertandyjenk From when I left school in 65 until the end of 68. There were around fifty on the production line when I started and around 80 wnen I left. The business started around 63 as far as I recall. Sited in a number of old buildings - one of which was an old Catholic Church (made of corrugared iron) which had been moved from the town to the site. The firm had close links to Nene Valley caravans in Northants and when I left it was owned by a US company, Boise Cascade I think. We were paid well and as an 18 year old I was on adult hourly rates which plus overtime and piece work bonuses sometimes paid me up to 40quid a week, which was amazing for the late 1960's when average take home was around 10quid..The vans were pretty good quality because we were invested in the production process which involved a fair degree of skill at all areas of production. I went back there in the early nineties I think it was and there was just one of the original buildings left with a few workers fitting bodies onto cabs and chassis for small motorised mobille homes.A lifetime ago.

what an interesting story Cavalier were popular - they were taken over by Bendix and then Cabby of Sweden - great to hear of your working life there - thank you so much for writing in to the channel so interesting

Well done Andy, what a find and a really nice man too. Great entertaining viewing Andy, you're in your element with that and it comes across very well. If you could source more of those old vans your channel will grow. Fair play to Tommy for giving us the chance to get a tour around it.

I'd be tempted to argue that it'd be an impossibility for a stone to go through a front window. When you look at the distance between the rearmost point of the tow car, and the wheels in relation to that, I don't think it'd be possible to get an angle sharp enough to flick a stone up into the front windows from the rear wheels. It'd have to go through the wheel arch liner, through the bumper, or more likely the boot, to be able to do it. Likewise if a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction flicked a stone up, the proximity of the tow car would more than likely make it impossible to go through the windows.

Me too James - never seen it happen in 50 years a friend of mine ran over a cone, it flicked up under the van damaging the floor ! Thanks for your comment good to hear your reply - thanks for watching

Great 2nd part Andy . Wished I'd started caravanning when I was younger . Tommys van will be popular I'm sure on whichever site he goes to. A real head turner . More vids like this please Andy..you've opened up a whole new "unknown" world to me...thankyou so much! I've been been trying to see what models we're what..I presumed wrong lyrics I think the models suffixed with an S were single axles and models suffixed with a T were twin axles but trying to see the adverts I think I'm wrong?

So glad you liked it - T meant toilet compartment GT was the 430 in 1971 then twins GTs with more spec - Cavalier were popular but as everything when production ceased over the years they became less and less so it was a super find this - Tommy contacted me and I am glad he did - glad you like caravanning and the heritage is of interest too!

@@caravanindustryexpertandyjenkMy father in law Brian Fuller worked at Estuary and Cavalier in Felixstowe. He started on the production line and eventually became line foreman. Used to go to Scandinavia a lot to deliver, set up and repair caravans. Eventually left to start his own caravan sales business, and finished his working life running "Brian Fuller Caravans" in Farnham Suffolk. Now known as Farnham Leisure. Unfortunately he passed some time ago. Sorting through his shed I found a lovely Cavalier Owner Club badge, and wondered if Tommy or yourself would be interested in having it. I think it's a badge for a car grille, and has a screw or bolt hole either side. It's quite heavy as it is made from stainless steel with an enamel (I think) and glass front. Happy to upload a picture if you can let me have your email address. I'm not on Facebook, so cannot do it there. Cheers, Gary

@@Bee-rr6vo Thank you for your note and I would love the badge - I have several owners club car badges, Sprite, Abbey etc so that would be fantastic. I am sorry to hear your dad passed away and I remember his dealership and have a few glasses guides which I am sure had Brian Fuller caravans on them! Love that history of your dad in the factory etc love hearing things like that. Cavaliers were very popular and I loved the layouts they used to. my spare email is andyjenks2017'@gmail.com

A great part 2 nice to see it’s going to be used I am sure Tommy will get a lot of attention.£525 new, you wouldn’t get a front window for that price now.

Love the Caravan as said in part1, I was surprised by Tommy been so young, im guessing 30s? I also loved his shirt he was wearing Real 70s Collars! im not sure but i think his jeans may of been also 70s but couldn't see much of them. Great Caravan, interesting Guy, its nice when younger people appreciate things from the past, or before they was born. Another great Video!

My thoughts exactly - when I saw Tommy i thought eh! I expected somebody older too - he saus his bedroom is decke3d out in that decade - I mostly loved the 70's my old friends say we had freedom and did what we wanted and we loved the music to, me the caravans-thanks for that great comment on the part two video!
