I was a in a cult/fundie christian religion my whole life. My son came out to me and I thought "before I start casting judgment should I just double check on this religion I was raised in?" And it turns out that once I stepped foot outside the indoctrination it was obvious bullshit. So instead of trying to fix him, he fixed me because I took a minute to think about it. Depressing how rare that is.

Just thinking of the "Prayers For Bobby" TV movie. And some of my own feelings leading up to the time I came out 10 years ago. I tried to "convert" myself by joining the military. Bad idea. Very bad idea. Couldn't be one of those guys to rush to marry up and have a family. Still deal with the depression from the time I served and was a scapegoat of my squad despite DADT being repealed, because I couldn't deal like everyone else could. Sheesh. This conversion shit is bad. Smh

For gay youths out there that struggle with whether you can be a Christian and also queer: Yes, you can. The Bible doesn't condemn being gay, it just condemns being a rapist or pedophile. God loves you, and indeed made you gay. Love who you will, as God intended. What this may mean is you can't be with certain segments of the Christian community. It's unfortunate, but you can't help people who are committed to hating you. It's not your job to try to change people who refuse to change. They will have to reckon with the Lord themselves, when the time comes. Until then, find or create a community that loves and supports you, and do good in the world however you can.
