The last time I was here was the summer of 1978 and they had a new coaster that was the longest, highest, and fastest called the Collossus, which scared the crap out of my 13 year old ass! I also remember seeing poster up all around showing the filming of a movie there called Rollercoaster. Not a bad flick for the time.

I love Magic Mountain and still visit a couple times a year. I do miss some of the old rides, but they have added some really good ones over the last couple decades. X2 and Tatsu are insane. They make Viper and Batman look like kiddie rides.

Interesting to see and hear your stories from the 1980s, I too worked at MM (before Six Flags) in the late 1970s as the engineer on the Steam Train along with many overtime positions. At least you handled the Loops back then I never could, I even got sick in front of my girlfriend. At least I could ride Colossus without any problems!

They had that spin ride at Six Flags New England back when it was Riverside, i remember going on it like twice when I was a kid. It was an interesting experience that I learned from.

Man, another banger! Brought up so many memories of me and my late father. My first roller coaster with a loop was revolution, because my dad lied to me an said it had no loops, haha. Could not get me off it after that. Also remember my father getting stuck on that rocket that went in a loop, it got stuck about 3/4, everyone hanging there. He weezled his way out the harness and hopped the fence, while everyone dangled for 45min. I can't believe tidal wave is gone, huge bummer!!

I remember also that the rock group KISS made a movie at magic mountain in the early days. Their main filming area was near Ninja ride and the tower ride near it.

We had a Six Flags Great Adventure, but we also had THIS! lol I went once, or twice a year, and it was awesome! We knew about injuries, and deaths, but... it'll never happen to us! A few things they didn't mention. The workers pulled the governors out of the race cars, so they would go about 50MPH. The Tarzan Swing, and the Canon Ball (not the loop, but a different tunnel that went under ground) dumped you into a natural spring, so it was FREEZING! It would be 95° with 100% humidity, and you would hit the water, and start drowning, because your body wouldn't move at first. They had a cliff jump too. I believe they were 15, and 20 feet, or 20, and 25 feet, and once you got up, you pretty much had to jump. No restrictions on age, or size. The Alpine Slide had signs to use your breaks, but you didn't have to, and I didn't. lol You would come out of a bank, and a sign would say "use your brake" (which was a lever you pull) because you were about to go off of a 6 foot drop that was probably 45° to 50° I would push the lever which made you go faster and get air. If you weren't straight you'd be in trouble. I know that now, but as a kid... not gunna happen.😂 I remember seeing some older black kid, and his whole left side was pink from falling off. Again, as a kid I didn't think of the danger, and how lucky i am for not wiping out, just that I'm better than that older kid. lol kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXynqZKmnr-pqck

That's what it was- Spin Out! Not sure why I thought it was Spinnaker. It must have been called that somewhere else. I remember the Gold Rush ride, but the family spent more time at Disneyland, so my first coaster was the Matterhorn. The 6 flags first that stands out was the Revolution. That was my first loop coaster. Best ride for me ever was the Colossus going backward. It would kill or seriously injure me today.😄

I'm more old school, I remember the Magic Mountain Trolls, Swiss Twist, Galaxy, The Enterprise, Mountain Express, The Octopus, Skyway, Bumper Boats, Spilliken Corners, and the Log Jammer. We used to live in Oxnard so our favorite thing to do was see who could spot the tower first from the 126 highway going into Santa Clarita. lol

Wow thanks for the walk down memory lane. Incredible MM was the first teen hang out place we got to go without mom and dad, just our friends. It was a main staple for Girl Scout/school events,, parties, and grad night. Colossus was the hot new must ride. The two tracks raced, then, the turned the one backwards and that line was so much longer to get on the backwards one.. I took myself there once as a much older adult just to re experience it. 🤢🤮 is what I got. I drive past the Superman ride and feel my stomach do flip flops. The water rides were tricky to plan or avoid. It was at the end or not at all. I vaguely remember the monorail. Was there a ride or attraction attached to a pagoda building or is that another park?

Cyclone was hard to find, always empty and it really a rough ride. If you put your feet forward in the car a bar would crack you on your shins. I always told my friends keep your feet forward during the ride.

Spin Out kicked my Ass when i was 16 during May of 1997 .I felt like Shit for hours after i got off the ride. I went with my best friend from high school Brandon and his mom & 2 step brothers Who were older than us I believe 19&21 . We went to the park because Superman had recently opened. I was not a fan of roller coasters but I went anyways because it was a free trip because his mom got hooked up with passes I just had to pay for some food I remember my buddys step brothers making fun of me for feeling sick after Spin Out. The only ride I could handle before we left the park was Tidal wave I really wanted to go on it because i was a fan of Step By Step. They went on Super man and Batman before we left. I do remember them complaining about leg pain after batman Thats my story Spin Out Closed in 2008 according to the Net
