Amazing video, Thanks Guys. One small issue speaking as someone who worked at all the Copenacre sites in the 1980's (Hartham, Monks Park, Spring Quarry and Colerne Airfield) Copenacre was a Royal Navy Stores Depot (RNSD) not an armaments depot (RNAD). Munitions were stored under Corsham in the second world war only. Sorry to be so pedantic! I have not been to Corsham in 30 years so the drone footage was fantastic for me. Thanks again

I was in the army for quite along time however there is no way you'd get that close to a working military base ! A lot of these tunnels got blocked up quite a few years ago and if it was still a working military site they'd be more security than a few sensors! Great video by the way but just be careful you dont go onto working military locations!

Matt, just wanted to say THANKS for lugging around that camera for all that time. I too know how even the lightest camera gear is heavy after an hour of lugging it around. So thanks so much for the high quality shoot. That Sony cam is really something else with the way the sensor is in them. Makes me want one myself. Already looking forward to seeing the next big explore which has probably already been done and just waiting to receive the upload treatment.

A new emergency exit was added to CCC sometime around 2016 I think. You can easily see it by looking at the archives on Google maps satellite views, at one point there is no door at the rear of the main entrance mound, then there is. I wonder if it's possible that the new exit was added so that underground routes via the other quarries were not needed? It would explain the bricked up areas you saw looking relatively recent...

Looking at the map that's visible in part 2 of these videos it's clear that they went in the South East direction down the MOD tunnel first, over the cross overs and then reached the end of the MOD tunnel where the escape slope shaft goes up into the industrial estate, not far to the East of the main Hartham Park compound. The ladder connects back down into the lower level, as shown on the map. They then went in the North West direction along the MOD tunnel until it breaks into Copenacre, hence all the corrugated metal. This is all fairly clear if you look at google images of the Corsham quarry limits, some of which show the MOD tunnel as a straight line South East from Copenacre. I think that MOD tunnel was a Copenacre escape route.

What are they continuing to dig for as it appear to be not being used for storage and they are not looking for seams of precious materials?
@davidyendoll5903 Жыл бұрын
Old Bath stone quarries /mines were reused for cold war bunkers in this area . Although Bath stone is not as precious as metals or gem stones it simply needs cutting out and moving ; it does not have the expense of separation of ores for metal , or rock for gems , in simple terms . It is still mined as it is valuable as a building material , expensive as it may be . You did see some storage of cut blocks in the film and I suspect Matt and the others did not go everywhere in the tunnels or show all the film footage . Possibly the mining companies work in hand with the MOD ; most likely , of course , always did and will do !

You really cant comprehend the shear size of the bunker, it is incredible. In west country parlance, those built pillars are called "slags" Hey have you tried Tillywhim caves down in Swanage, Enid Blyton wrote one of her books centred around those caves and they occasionally get opened by rascals who just happen by with bolt croppers to accidentally knock off the padlocks ;) Was a major smuggling centre run by Bournemouth rascally pirate John Gullivar whom Bournemouth council has done its level best to erase any memory of and believed his tall tales (very tall as he was a rotund fecund "gentleman") led to Verne semi basing a book on his acclaimed exploits and no coincidence that one of John's biggest whoppers was a tribe of pygmies who lived over the water of Sandbanks... in Lilliput :P
