I can't wait for my crossbow to get here, I got a cheap 40 pound crossbow handed to me by my wifes stepdad and I made some bolts for it and its alright but its got a v shaped limb on it so I couldn't mod it like the others in videos I've watched so I got a 80lb one on the way with an additional limb and some strings I figure if I modded the power of it enough I'd be able to have a viable bug out bag short range small game option that doesn't eat bullets and is much more stealthy than a air rifle or 22

The cable tie method loses alot of kenetic energy unfortunately 😞 I think 80 lb is plenty for what I need, I'll just use my 170lb if need more power.

How much power would a crossbow gain if it shortened a string?

Two limbs doesn't make it's 120lb, it's still 60lb at most, it doesn't double the power

actually it might if the string is on the 1st limb very easy to do as long as you keep the original limb on while you put the second limb

Its funny that you say that, because joerg even tested this with the cobra adder and it actually MORE than doubled the power (joules). He used the130lb stock limb plus a 110lb limb from a similar model and it went from the 270fps with just the stock 130lb limb to 344fps with both limbs, all while more than doubling the joules. It certainly does work. It was so powerful that it completely burried the bolts in the archery target and he had to dig them out with a knife lol.

id love to put a secind limb on my redback, it only costs 13 bucks...however i dont think the crossbow can take 2 times the power...why dont you shoot it over a chrony, to give an impression what kind of difference it makes. To be honest i have my doughts that its 120 lbs.

2 bows dont make it 100% stronger its more 50-75% increase but i have the same idea, and i want to do it with a redback too

Thats what youd think, but Joerg did it to the cobra adder (the one with the magazine) by adding the 110lb limb and 130lb version of the r9 limb together. In his tests it MORE than doubled the joules and increased fps from 270-344 which is pretty substantial IMO. I wouldnt doubt that this adds considerable power.
