It's probably the worst of Sorrentino's films. It's incredibly pretentious, but then it's also so painfully flat that you can't even call it campy. The only good thing about it is the visuals; but even that gets tiring after a while.

In that movie it wasn’t like everyone was falling head over heel for Zendaya, only two guys she pursued relationships with and didn’t even care about becuz she had her own pursuit, this movie is far more like a classic Greek myth where every single man who sees her is in love with her and becomes crazy. "Parthenope" is a smart title ! Parthenope is supposed to have been a Siren of Greek Mythology, who drowned willingly when she failed to seduce Odysseus (in the Greek versions, Sirens were bird-like, not fishes), and whose tomb was in current Napoli, and her name was often used to mean Naples as a periphrase. So the main character is both the seductive figure of the femme fatale, but also the beauty of the place - Italian streets in the sun, something you can fall in love for one Summer.
@zoebaggins908 күн бұрын
No, no Siren is named in the Odyssey.
@bokarndiaye3237 күн бұрын
@@zoebaggins90 In the Odyssey the Sirens are indeed not named (they're just referred in the dual, which can either imply they were two or that it was a feature of their names which context we lack). But please note that I didn't mention the Odyssey as a source for this myth. The main mentions of Parthenope actually comes from two Roman accounts of Greek mythology: Strabo, who just gives the name of Parthenope to a siren, and Servius in his comments to Ovid's Metamorphosis, who adds the detail that she tried and failed to seduce Odysseus.

@andrewroberts7428 I didn't think I needed to, but okay, everything is a remake, or live action remake, or a prequel, or a sequel, or a prequel to the sequel, the 10% of original movies/shows we still get are so dumb sometimes I actually believe it's AI's effort and no humans were involved, the scripts and dialogues are so stupid even the language used is too freaking simple and uninspired and the stories are too easy to see where they are going from the first 10 mnts, this one for example, the story is literally: a sexy women being hit on by men, that is literally the message and the core of this film, so I am asking why have I grown up watching genius movie makers in the 90's and 2000's and even the early 2010's making amazing films every year, but in the past 6-7yrs everything has been so disappointing with the exception of a bunch movies here and there, and a couple of European good films, other than that we have been getting shit, and I believe that the answer is simple: the genius movie makers are old now so they can keep up the same production, and the new film makers are so fucking dumb and have no freaking imagination whatsoever to come up with good shit on their own, because they became comfortable stealing ideas or just remakes Ng what other people have done..

@@FBARCCW nice 😎i don't necessarily agree in regard to this particular film though, i think there are hints of subtext sufficient to make it interesting. at the very least, if that one shot of the molotov cocktail detonating against the shield of that riot police weren't included, the film would be made to seem far less intriguing were it absent from the trailer.

@@FBARCCWI agree that a large portion of the film industry has devolved into endless remakes, and I believe it is largely to do with the monopolisation of the entire thing by certain companies (cough, Disney, cough cough.) That being said, A24 has a good track record for supporting films that are original or innovative in some capacity and for that I wouldn't assume you know exactly what this one is about.

@@baileym2952 I agree that A24 has a good track record of financing original movies, with that being said I believe that our job is to work on the previous artistic endeavours which means making something that engages the mind and flirts with the norms not something that numbs the mind because you have seen it a million times before, you can see it happening with great directors Capolla, Todd Phillips, Ridley scott, James Cameron and you usually can tell with how engaging the trailer is, on the other hand there are movies like Smile, even the sequel was better which is rare, original and knew how to add to the previous horror experience we all enjoyed.. now I will absolutely give this movie a shot for the sake of A24's track record but I know I am gonna be bored out of my mind..

@MillennialEuropean Pretentious kids who could tell you very little about the history of arthouse cinema who are overdoing the praise because they think it makes them part of the "cool kids". 😂😂 And I don't hate them in the slightest, I just find this constant drooling over them as though everything that comes out with their name on it is the greatest thing in cinema embarrassing. Ridiculous.

In the Greek myth, Parthenope is the siren who committed suicide after failing to enchant Odysseus. Her body was brought by the tide to the place where Castel dell'Ovo is now built, and for this she gave the name to the city that would have later become Neapolis, Naples. 🧜♀

@@jaredplantulli4288 Pretty much, let's say the scenario is secondary but the images are goregous. It's a love letter to Napoli (just like his last movie Hand of God) and to women more generaly. It's classy & sexy, with one of the prettiest image i've seen this year.
