Күн бұрын

When #Russia invaded #Ukraine in February 2022, anti-Putin Russian partisans began to launch sabotage operations against Kremlin infrastructure inside their country.
After almost one year of war, these cells in Russia have grown exponentially. From Moscow to Vladivostok, there have been more than 80 confirmed anti-government attacks in the past 12 months.
To document Russia's anti-Putin underground first hand, we met with two members of one of the most well organised Russian partisan groups.

As a Russian relocant, who had luck to leave the country I can assure you that you need to have an extreme courage to be a partisan like this. You need not just to show bravery during the action when the adrenaline kicks in but you need to be able to learn a lot not to leave a digital footprint, very carefully choose the place and time of execution and not get caught afterwards. These are the real heroes of Russia, the streets will be named in honor of them and there will be their statues. But for now they have to overcome not only their fear but also a social pressure of society who in its majority will blame them either for treachery (as loyalists) or for violence (as some people from the liberal community but not all)

“If not us, then who? If not now, then when?” ― John Lewis (civil rights activist and American politician) It's paraphrased from Hillel the Elder, a first-century BCE Jewish leader, who allegedly stated, "If I am not for myself, who will be for me? And being for my own self, what am I? And if not now, when?" In this form, the quote is more of a commentary on self-advocacy than social activism. Since Hillel uttered this phrase, variations of it have been used not just in politics, but also in film, music, and literature...

As a Russian who permanently left the country I can only watch in awe as those heroes do their slow, painful, seemingly futile but such needed job to make their homeland fair and free. They risk everything. They risk getting caught, tortured by FSB/MVD's extremism department and then slowly killed through inhumane prisons. They risk their families, those might get their lives ruined by constant interrogations and search orders. If they go to prison and there will be some miracle and new government comes into power there's no guarantee they will get any amnesty. They do not have any organisational structure to coordinate except from some methodical support from decentralised "knowledge centers" like BOAK or Black Bridge. They have to be driven by the sheer initiative, not the orders of some high command. They have to become a "one man army" each, learning lots of stuff from digital anonymity to electrical engineering, from running to a ton of illegal stuff. At the same time they still have to go to work, tend to their duties, avoid "mogilisation", and don't tell anybody about their second life. They have to bee extremely passionate to do what they do. They have to do this despite the hate from vatniks, conformists, liberals. They have to do this despite the fear and the anxiety, despite all of the sheer power of the state against them. There's a poem by the Robert Rozhdestvensky "На земле безжалостно маленькой..." which ends with a line that translates "There wasn’t enough marble in the whole world to carve out the guy in full growth". Now I know these words describe each of them fully.

Are these lies from a Russian perspective? Just asking because it seems to me that the masses are quite indoctrinated. Not unlike in the US/Crown States. There has been several intercepted phone calls from Russian soldiers in Ukraine posted on YT. They believe that they are there to essentially eliminate the citizens and retake the land for Russian. Stating that the blacks and gays have taken over, due to influence from the EU. Im far from woke or being in the left, but that kind of bs comes from the top down. Russia is fk’d and the populace is just as guilty.

As some have already stated you guys should really consider covering Ukraine's anarchist movement that's been fighting Russia's regime all these years. Another analogy. White leftists in North America will often get the spotlight for resisting the western imperial movement, but we really oughtta look to the colonised people who are currently, and always have been on the front lines of this fight.

Anarchists have always played a critical role in partisan resistance groups, perhaps they're the ones who truly hold your ideals to heart, they're the ones who take the most noble actions in the name of freedom? Anarchists are freedom fighters the world over.
