The partition of the Bengal province came into effect during Lord Curzon's viceroyalty on 16th October 1905. There was widespread political unrest in the province after Curzon announced the partition.
The swadeshi movement assumed its radical and mass form after 1905 following the contested spatial partition of Bengal. After the partition of Bengal, the Swadeshi movement got a big boost, because of the integration of the boycott movement with the Swadeshi movement.

Some key aspects such as the partition of Bengal in 1905, the swadeshi movement, the swadeshi and boycott movement, the Bengal partition date, the role of Lord Curzon in the partition of Bengal, reasons for the partition of Bengal, Bengal partition of 1947 and the swadeshi movement in Bengal are also discussed.
Indian nationalism was gaining in strength, and partition was expected to weaken what was perceived as the nerve centre of Indian nationalism at that time.
The government's decision to partition Bengal was made public in December 1903.
The idea was to have two provinces:
Bengal, comprising Western Bengal as well as the provinces of Bihar and Orissa, and Eastern Bengal and Assam.
Bengal retained Calcutta as its capital, while Dacca became the capital of Eastern Bengal.
Swadeshi Movement Initiation
During this period, the leadership was provided by SN Banerjee, K.K. Mitra & Prithwish Chandra Ray. The methods adopted were petitions to the government, public meetings, memoranda, & propaganda through pamphlets & newspapers such as Hitabadi, Sanjibani & Bengali.
