Fun Facts on a couple of the partitions: -Libya: Italy (or at least, the then Foreign Minister, Carlo Sforz) actually made a serious attempt at getting a Tripolitania as a UN Trust Territory, like it did with Somalia and also wanted to do with Eritrea. There was obvisously some prestige involved, and keeping the appearances of not having lost the war, but the main reason behind this was apparently that any work done in building up the former colonies could be a point in Italy's favor when approaching the Islamic world. -Palestine: Allegedly, Jordan also tried to partition in with Britain before war broke out. Jordan also apparently was close to trying to invade and conquer Syria, in those years, something that apparently the Syrian leadership was extremely concerned about, as Jordan had the better army.

The likely reason why the Entente didn't force Turkey to give Kurdistan independence, is because both French Syria and British Iraq, have areas with large Kurdish populations. An independent Kurdistan would've likely led to breakaway regions in those countries, like we see today, but with the backing of a Kurdish majority state.

These videos have a very "old fashioned" or "nostalgic" style to them. Maybe it is the meh microphone or lack of serious editing/animations. Or maybe it is the background music. Or maybe it is that Tigerstar is still making videos the same way he has been making them for the past 5 years. idk. I can't pin it down. It might be because the video is 6 minutes, and it isn't the obligator 10-minute video so that you can put in 2 midroll ads.

@@korakys Greeks and Turks never went along together, Turks dominated the Greeks, going as far as enslaving some, they suppressed Greek revolt with blood until the end. Bonus : If you look closer, to this question, you will also realize that most multicultural countries, where there is no clear borders between ethnicities (so not countries like Switzerland), are only held together by ann authoritarian regime keeping everyone in check. Where the regime forces are stronger than communitarian forces. Best example is Russia, China, Austria-Hungary and Yugoslavia. More this kind of countries become democratic, more the communitarian voice are heard, and more it become unstable. TLDR : Multiculturalism only work in an authoritarian state.

Though that might have had ramifications for world history as a whole, with the Middle East (unlike, say, South America or Australia) being in the thick of world history. when you say "one side wouldn't approve of the UN plan and a war would break out" that is probably false. neither israel or palestine would agree to the 47 un proposal because on israel's side it is a huge loss of territory, and on palestine's side, they generally believe it should all be palestine.
@noahschwartz1222
@noahschwartz1222 Жыл бұрын
Just saying, pre-Israel Jewish government did approve of the 47 partition, although historical accounts show that, as you mentioned, they wanted more land and particularly Jerusalem, but saw international legitimacy and security garuntees as more important given the prospects of a 5 front war if they refused. They ended up facing a 5 front war anyway because the Arab Government refused, because, as you allude, Al-Husseini wanted 100% of the land for an Arab state. However, I think that the the Arabs may have been convinced to agree to the minority plan as it gave Arab control of Jerusalem and an overwelming amount of the partition, while the Jews would almost certainly reject such a plan. So ET is right to say that no plan would have resulted in both saying yes, because the minoity plan favored Arabs too much for the Jews to agree to it and the majority and final plans favored the Jews too much for the Arabs to agree to it.

There were so many proposals for how to divide Israel, you can read about two of them here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Peace_Conference_(1919%E2%80%931920) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulet%E2%80%93Newcombe_Agreement At the start, Jordan was supposed to be part of the planned jewish state but was later separated. It's interesting to see that over the years the jewish territorial demands became less ambitious and became much more realistic.

@@danialhalal the arabs didn't genocide the jews until this tart of Zionism. After that, arabs did countless attacks against jewish civilians: the 1929 Palestine riots, the 1948 Cairo bombings, the Farhud... Hatred is present in both sides but one side looks for peace every time and have offered countless offers in favour of the other side (spoiler alret: it's not the arabs). On the other side you have a group of racist, extremist leaders who want to have all of the land for themselves. Abbas accused Israel of committing 50 holocausts in GERMANY (do I even need to explain that Israel isn't doing anything that is even close to the holocaust?) and refused to apologize for the terror attack on the Israeli sport team in the Munich Olympics. He also said in the past "that the Nazi mass murder of European Jews was the result of their financial activities, not anti-Semitism." And he is supposed to be moderate among the Palestinians, I am not even talking about hammas. Amin al-Husseini, who is a key figure in the creation of the Palestinian identity (before 1967, they were simply arabs) and nation was a known antisemite lead to the creation of the Arab SS division, he was a big supporter of hitler, many historians claim he was the one who suggested the final solution, he prevented the saving of jews and supported the extermination. Is it enough for you to understand why it isn't "hatred between two sides" but an attempt to erase a group of people and a group of people who is defending themselves for 2,000 years?

Treaty of Sevres or how it should be. Restoration of Armenia especially after the genocide the Turks comitted. Trebizond to an Orthodox country, as it was Greek for many centuries. Smyrna back to Greece. Independence for Kurdistan. Was it harsh for the Turks, sure I don't deny that, but so many nationalities would benefit from this treaty and would get their own country or legitime territory back.

"Allies could have still decided to go on with the referandum" what do you mean by that? No they couldn't because they lost they did not control that land and there were other more important issues it was not even brought up in lausanne. The only unresolved issue in that treaty was the ownership of Mosul which was settled later on in 1926. Treaty of Sevres as a whole could have happened and but it didn't. There is no scenerio where only Kurds get what they want from sevres since they were not a priority. If they were, there would be a referandum in northern iraq in the first place.

4:48 The Jewish State in this proposal had a %49 Arab population because Jaffa city was made into an enclave of the Arab state inside the Jewish one. If you included Jaffa city in the surrounding Jewish state, it would have a %53-54 Arab majority. Also Palestinian Arabs own about %70-80 of private properties in the Jewish state according to the British census figures.

That is a complete lie. The Jewish State was to be comprised of roughly 5,500 square miles and the population was to be 538,000 Jews and 397,000 Arabs. The Arab State was to be 4,500 square miles with a population of 804,000 Arabs and 10,000 Jews. Though the Jews were allotted more total land, the majority of that land was in the sparsely populated desert. By "private property" do you mean private land ownership? Not only that is completely irrelevant - especially because Jews (yes, specifically Jews) were literally were forbidden to own land there for thousands of years until 1917 - and even than they were only allowed to do so in very small and specific poor, arid and barren lands, as were defined by the White Papers, most of the Jewish-held lands, absolutely were not private areas, but communal and national.
