Mascota is a local term referring to the traditional Spanish inspired dress.
Over the years, the use of Mascota has been limited to special and formal occasions.
Together with Fashion Designers Association of Zamboanga (FDAZ) we aim
to educate and promote it's beauty and value especially to the next generation.
Although in existence since the Spanish period,
the interest in the Mascota regained its popularity during
the time of the late Mayor Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat.
A distinct feature of the mascota is that as compared to the Filipininana
where the Panuelo is standing, in the case of the mascota, it is hanging.
Its bell sleeves are also hanging as compared to the butterfly sleeves in Filipiniana attires. Only the Zamboanga Mascota has the tapis.
