helped me fix the washer by myself while I was quoted 1200$ for repair. Considered buying a new washer but watching your video gave me the confidence to attempt it and voila! it did work. I had water leaking issue immediately after replacing spider. I saw that black tube burst opened. Put it back and reattached water controlling sensor harness and it fixed the leaking and overfilling problem. Thank you for an informative video!

Thank you sir. Your explanations made the task quite easy. For those who may have difficulties to find the custom screws that hold the spider to the basket (as I experienced...) the part number is 4000FR4031B. Got mine specially ordered at a local appliances store that diligently did an awesome job at finding the part. Also, if the basket grinded the thub edge as the spider failed. It is quite easy to repair using a hot air plastic welder with polypropylene rods. Make sure that the surface to weld is clean from debris. Tip : I used electrician's tape to keep the edge from spliting while patching the hole. Make sure to cut/sand off any welding bulges that may appear and that the edge keeps its original smooth profile.

Helpful video! One likely scenario that he doesn't cover is when the spindle is frozen/rusted in there and won't come free. If the spider arm is rusted/disintegrated like mine was, chances are it also has seized/rusted to the inner bearing. There is too much bounce when the drum is suspended on those spring to get a good whack on the spindle to set it free. I ended up taking the drum assembly out and setting it on the floor. Soak the spindle with PB Blaster or other lubricant, let it soak in, then give the spindle a good whack. Knowing the problem I had, I wasn't too worried about marring the spindle with direct hammering since it was part of the part being replaced. Once it breaks free, it should slide out. If not, use a block of wood or pipe to tap it all the way free (at this point you won't need a lot of force and, as the video said, you don't want to hit directly on the bearings as you could damage them. This was the only part of the job that was difficult.

There is never any support at the front, the two rear bearings and spider shaft surprisingly hold the drum rigid, with enough clearance to run in the tub until a weak spider or worn bearing accurs... Hope this helps

Lower cost, lower weight, resulting in a shorter overall unit lifespan before maintenance is required. People can go on all day long about planned obsolescence, and how companies just want you to keep buying stuff over and over, but at the end of the day, if a company makes a cheaper washer that technically still washes clothes just fine, people will buy it. Companies don't have any incentive to make higher quality products because everyone will just buy the cheaper ones instead, and the better ones won't end up being worth the manufacturing cost.

@tgriffin69383 жыл бұрын
This would be a great video if he didn't say how easy it was. It's not easy and you need to replace the rear tub assembly to make it a easier job. Every one I have done the rear bearing was noisy before I started. You should always replace the rear bearing and seal when doing this job. This job is such a PITA that you should always replace the rear tub assembly when doing this job. If your shocks are showing signs of leaking replace the while you are in there. If your drain pump is original then replace that too since the drain pumps are cheap. Since you have it that far apart replace the tub boot also. You do all that you will have basically a brand new operating machine and you want have to take the front off the machine for another 8 to 10 years if you stop using so much detergent and only 2 teaspoons per load and stop using the pods. If you can do a wash cycle without any clothes in your washer and you see suds appear in your washer...... You have been using too much detergent. Use the tub clean cycle with affresh tablets every few months also. Take care of your machine and it will take care of you.

Lloyd…I just did this the past 2 weeks (actually I replaced the bearings, where you have to take the entire tub/drum off. I have the WM2016CW too. Which part of the “rear drum assembly” can’t you remove? The spider assembly or the outer tub, or shaft etc?
@ldl00213 жыл бұрын
@@1guitar12 I got it done, I had to buy the entire rear assembly off of eBay. The rear assembly is the part he leaves in the washing machine when he takes the front off and the metal drum out. My rear assembly and metal drum were fused together and couldn’t be separated probably due to rust and corrosion. So I ended up buying a new spider assembly, a new rear drum and the metal drum. This entire project was a pain in the a** and I hope to never have to do it again.

They can be a bit of a bugger to come off. The front edge is fit under a channel on either side, its a tight fit. If your machine is the same as in the video the process shown will work but saying that sometimes you have to give it a little help with a thin blades putty knife by pushing it down into the seam at the front of the top and pry a little to get the top to move. So as not to mark the top or adjoining console I usually run a strip of painters tape on both sides of the seam so I dont mark or scratch anything.
