I'm a rookie and this replacement was a first time doing this. My original timer didn't have a black wire like the replacement, so I didn't know what to do with it (no instructions in package - OEM Whirlpool part). At any rate, I learned the hard way that you should take the time to carefully remove the locking clips from the the plastic prongs that hold the timer in place and reuse. I drilled znd used the screws provided) None of the screws/brass electrical pigtail were needed in my case. Again, I'm a rookie but finally figured out how to connect the new black wire on the replacement timer. According to the site, when you unplug your old timer and your wire harness has (orange/pink/white and red) the black wire connects to terminal #1 on the new timer. A (black/pink/red/orange) connects @ #2. The black wire has a slot in it that can be pushed onto/over the terminal that is appropriate for your model. UNPLUG THE FRIDGE! Proceed at your own risk, If you don't know what you are doing, don't do it.

Yes sir partselected didn't send install instructions. And also I have no idea how to take those clips off with out breaking those posts. So the timer motorbis always powered so that lead needs to be connected to hot. I had to bust open the broken timer to find out which terminal is supposed to be hot. This comment confirms my thinking

If you have an expensive 3 wire defrost thermostat you can eliminate the one wire that is the fan delay, This is the wire off to itself coming out of the stat. Then get an inexpensive two wire stat and splice one wire to the wall plug and the other to the heater wire plug. It will defrost very well as mine did.

My refer has stopped twice in the last few days. All components at the back of the refer test good. Tapping the panel that the defrost timer and cold control thermostat are mounted on fixes it until it sticks again. Which component, defrost timer or cold control thermostat, is the most common one to have bad contacts?

Thanks for this great video! I am in the middle of troubleshooting a refrigerator (Hitachi RK50EPAM). The unit would run fine for the first 8 hours upon plugging in the device and then stop cooling. I understand that the compressor never really runs 100% of the time and the cycle involves a defrost but I'm wondering why the unit does not seem to come back and cool again after that. I hope you can give me an insight on what the possible issues may be. Thanks a lot!

First, thanks for the video. Very professionally done. But, a couple points that seem to lacking in this kind of videos. 1. What are the symptoms that require one to replace the defrost timer? 2. For this particularly video, I wish Steve would speak a bit louder. :-)

Great video! Would you be able to point me to the right defrost timer on your website for a Whirlpool 6ED2FHKXRL? I suspect it's the defrost timer that is a problem as my freezer sweats and then freezes the sweat beads. But if I advance the defrost timer every X hours so it starts the defrost cycle, it doesnt get warm enough to sweat. Perhaps just adjusting the defrost timer?

I cleared the bin last night and cleared the little hose that fills the tray, hoping to find ice this morning, but that wasn't the case. The tube was frozen over so much that the tray couldn't even get filled. How do I test the defrost thermostat, heater, and timer?

I have a lot of moisture building up on the bottom of the plastic control panel. When I removed this panel, I didn't see anything that would cause moisture, but I see that you list leaking water, so I am assuming that is what I am seeing and that the defrost timer needs replacement. Would this also cause the ice inside my ice bucket at the freezer to freeze into clumps at the back end so that the auger won't move them forward to crush them? The auger motor works fine, but when all the ice cubes stick together it won't budge to crush or move them into the ice dispenser?

Hi, I have a Whirlpool GD5PHAXLQ00 side by side that stopped cooling. All it does is click by the compressor. Everything else is running (fans, lights, ect...). I tested the compressor and it seems to be within range and none of the pins are shorted. I purchased a relay/ overload kit(8201786) and it continues to do the same thing, make clicking noise. Any advice on what to check next would be greatly appreciated. I've been without a refrigerator for 3 days. Thanks!

I have a problem with my side by side Whirlpool refrigerator model ed5vhgxmq10 It is having problem to come on and stay on most of the times. Inside get almost room temperature and it would still not come on. Few times it comes on and turns of within couple of seconds and at other times it comes on at the moment when I push the button to get some water in the glass. Important note: all fans and compressor are working when it comes on. I suspect the faulty "Electronic" defrost control timer

Thanks for the video. I have the similar problem with my Kitchenaid Refrigerator Model: KSCS25QFAL00. I do not have the timer; I have the adaptive defrost control. I wanted to make sure that my defrost heater is good before I check the thermostat. Could you please help me with checking the heater? I did the continuity test and it was positive. Then checked the resistance and found that it is ZERO. Does this mean my heating element is bad?
@partselect
@partselect 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Mara! Thanks for the kind words. Normally the resistance of the heater will be around 10 to 30 ohms and the resistance of the thermostat when it is cold would be near zero ohms. Hope this helps!

Hey guys, I have a Whirlpool ED22TEXHW02 and the icemaker is killing me. The ice melts into a big chunk and jams up the auger. There's also ice that developed on the back and sides of the ice container. Any advice on what this could be? I check the SYMPTOMS section on your site but didn't see this. Thanks : )

Hi Steve,I have a Whirlpool designer. Freezer coils are frosting up and then not cooling. When I defrost it everything works fine and is ice cold for 4-5 days and then it repeats. I replaced the thermostat but same thing is happening. If the timer the probable cause?Thanks
@partselect
@partselect 7 жыл бұрын
If your model uses a mechanical defrost timer, you can manually advance the timer to the defrost cycle. If the defrost heater comes on, then the heater and thermostat are okay. If the heater does not come on, you may have a problem with either the timer or the heater element.

Hi Steve, I have a Whirlpool (ED2VHGXMQ00), and it's making Ice on the freezer fan, and cause noise. I took off this ice but it make again. Do you think if I change this part the problem can solve? Thanks in advance
@partselect
@partselect 7 жыл бұрын
Your model uses an electronic defrost timer as well as a defrost heater and a termination thermostat. Any of those parts could cause that symptom. Check the heater and thermostat for continuity first. The thermostat needs to be tested when it is at freezing temperature. If they check okay, then suspect the defrost timer.

I have a Kenmore top-freezer model 16.7028991, Old timer was mounted on 2 plastic pins held with brass clips (no screws). I couldn't get the clips off, and broke one of the pins. The holes on the repl timer were too small; had to drill them out to fit. Since 1 of the pins snapped off, I had to hold the timer on with a velcro square. Will this affect the timer's function? Also, the instructions weren't clear as to which one of the terminals to attach the black wire. I put it on #1. Correct?

This eight-hour defrost timer will replace most other defrost timers. This device acts like a clock. It continually advances and alternates between activating the cooling cycle and the defrost heater. The best way to make sure you get the correct timer for your refrigerator is to conduct a search for your model number. NOTE: The black lead on the defrost timer, will go to terminal number 2

Hi Paula, I would suggest to consult the wiring diagram for your model. This is normally located inside of the control housing. Compare the original wiring with the diagrams shown on the instructions to determine the correct application.

Wendy Milner You may have an issue with the ice flapper door staying open and causing the ice maker fill tube to freeze up. Start by inspecting the fill tube and the ice flapper door.

We cannot locate a wiring diagram for this model. However, there should be one contained in a plastic packet near the compressor area or in the main control panel.

How do you know it needs a Defrost Timer Kit?
@partselect
@partselect 10 жыл бұрын
It could be a variety of things. Here is a list of reasons you might need to replace this part: Fridge section too warm. Freezer section too warm. Leaking water. Will not start. Freezer not defrosting. Refrigerator runs too long. Freezer section too cold. Fridge section too cold. Unusual Noise. Too warm. Frost build-up.

Tech sated to "take note of the wires on the harness." But it was not mentioned why would viewer need to take note of it. Considering that the new D-Timer comes into harness exactly as old part came off. Please explain.

***** Thanks for getting back. I don't have the MN available. The defected fridge belongs to my dad and we finally seem to have resolved his problem. The problem was with the mode wire not connected right on the new D-Timer. The mode wire is that black wire that is dangling from the D-Timer and it has to engage onto one of the numbered pin or post. As Steve eluded to, the lead has to engage on the proper numbered terminal, otherwise the D-Timer won't work, thus the entire refrigerator won't come on. So read the new part instructions and attach that wire where it suppose to go.
