Any baker would do exactly what you did. The first “icing” layer is called a crumb coat. Then they usually put it in the fridge and let it harden up and then pipe over the crumb coat. It looked so good! Loved your balloon arch as well. You’re so creative! ❤️🌈☀️

Having 3 kids myself I understand the chaos of trying to get everything done for the parties. I always used helium tanks and bought ribbon and balloons that matched the party's theme. Having a handheld pump might make blowing up regular balloons easier. My children are almost grown now so I've thrown a LOT of parties, some extravagant, some DIY, some destination, some simple. You are so right, no matter what kind of party you throw, your child will be very happy and appreciate it very much.

If you ever want to do smooth frosting in the future, I suggest doing a crumb coat first. You put on a thin layer of frosting over the whole cake, maybe 1/3 of the total frosting and then put in the fridge for 20-30 minutes. This will set up and keep the crumbs in place so when you add the rest of the frosting they won't move and get on the top layer of frosting! That being said, I absolutely love the texture that the piping provided on this cake. It looks amazing!!

Coming back to watch this again a year later as I'm planning my daughter's 2nd Birthday and this is the theme. I always love your videos so I was excited to re-watch. When frosting, there is a layer called the crumb coat. This is a thin layer of frosting that will have all those little bits of cake, so what you were doing was right! Then after you do the crumb coat you can do another layer of frosting and it should come out clean! Love your videos!

I absolutely love how this party turned out!!! Tanner’s reaction to it all was perfect! For balloons I use a hand pump that came with my exercise ball! It inflates when you pull the back out and when you push in so it’s perfect!

Tiffani, the cake was awesome. If you want to avoid the crumbs in the frosting, nest time put a very thin layer of frosting ( called a crumb coating) put in the refrigerator for a bit for it to harden. Then you can go head and fror it in the normal way you would with no crumbs. You did great Mama.

A great hack I learnt for decorating cakes is to freeze them first, it stops the crumbs invading the icing!

I bought the balloon inflatting machine this year for my daughters unicorn party, and it was a lifesaver, I did a balloon Garland and it would of taken everything out of me to do it all, it only took about 20 minutes with the machine, best purchase so far 😁

Frosting hack for next time throw the store bought frosting in your mixer with a stick of softened real butter. Mix until you have an amazing buttercream and about 3 times the amount of frosting as the container. I definitely will be trying the cake recipe it looks delicious 🤤
