Another thing to think of is When it comes to Rick and the 2nd gun, you have to remember that they have to sign out their weapons, but they typically only are issued their guns when they leave the compound. They typically dont have guns inside the walls, not even Rick and Michonne. So Carol and Rick having weapons assures them that they have enough firepower and force to get into and take over the armory if needed. Now with Sasha, she isnt well, not at all. Between Bob, Tyrese and every other person that has been lost from her perspective, it just feels like she has to be the eagle eye, always watching, always worrying, always vigilant. She isnt suicidal, but she feels the need to keep everything safe, that trivial things we used to worry about are just that now, trivial. Also, my take on Sasha going off on the pictures shows that while she is basically just out there having target practice, the growls that come with it and her anger build up makes me think that not only is she thinking that these people are dangerous (due to their lack of survival instincts) and that will get them dead and then be another danger once turned. Her mental state is def fragile right now. Also, buckle the f#&k up because alot of stuff is going to go down in the next 3 episodes. Just remember to keep your arms and legs inside at all times, as this is about to be a wild ride!

So fun fact about episodes 12 - 16. The titles "Remember" "Forget" "Spend" "Try" and "Conquer" are actually a call back to S1 when Dale was playing with his watch and when asked about it quoted William Faulkner about time. She's eating dog one day n the next people are talking about book club n favorite meals. It's no wonder she lost it! Not having a guard at the tower 24/7 is something they cannot grasp. And Deanna saying she gets they've been thru a lot... I know she's trying to be nice n it's certainly not her fault, but there's no way she can imagine what they've been thru. What a great episode, almost like we are living in the old world. Parties, beer, dressing up, small talk. It’s so strange for our ppl, esp Sasha. And Carol threatening Sam was savage. @patriciamillin-j3s2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s so much about pushing kids away as it is about toughening them up and preparing them to deal with what’s out there, much like her “knife lessons” at the prison. Baking cookies and being nice isn’t going to help them. Losing her daughter, not being able to protect her, set her on that path, which became even narrower when she couldn’t protect Mika from Lizzie or Lizzie from herself.

The “A” stamp has more than one meaning. On the surface it just stands for Alexandria, but don’t forget, when our group was in the train car at Terminus, their train car was labeled “A”. I’ve always taken it to symbolize how the group feels almost trapped in Alexandria. They’re having to both “Remember” how the old world used to be, and “Forget” the world outside on some level, at least to let loose a little. Alexandria feels like a new train car that they are trapped in behind those walls, awaiting the troubles on the outside. They are being stamped with the letter, just as they were nothing more than cattle at Terminus.

The names for this episode, the previous one and for the rest of these seasons are from a poem dale told in season 1. "I give you the mausoleum of all hope and desire, which will fit your individual needs no better than it did mine or my father's before me, I give it to you not that you may remember time, but that you may forget it for a moment now and then and not spend all of your breath trying to conquered it." In other news, in the comics, Jessie only has one son, Ron. Ron is about Carl's age so they aged Ron up a bit too to match Chandler Riggs' age. Sam is made for the show as is the same age as comic carl and it's a blast seeing him get traumatised by Carol
@RealOneRev2 жыл бұрын
Great stuff as usual. Seeing everyone try to settle was one thing I really liked in these episodes. Since Sasha doesn’t exist in the comics, this paranoia from the party actually happened to Michonne after being reminded of the lost of her family and what happened to her at Woodbury
@patriciamillin-j3s2 жыл бұрын
It’s fun to watch how they adapt certain situations to characters other than those in the comics. Like Herschel losing gis leg, when in the comics it was Dale. I won’t mention future situations, don’t want to spoil anything, but it happens numerous times throughout the series. I suppose that’s because actors sometimes left the show before the comics were written, as in Jeffrey DeMunn’s case. That caused a split in the pathways of the comics and the series, leading to the show eventually going its own way, while still adhering loosely to the comics.

@fpeterlaskey3322 жыл бұрын
My biggest issue with the Walking Dead was how unrealistic they were in how horses would respond to the dead. With Buttons the horse would have been sensitive to the smell of walkers as generally horses don't like dead things also horses have sharp hearing. When riding my horses as soon as we came across a dead animal they would have their nostrils flaring and walking as far around the dead animal as possible. Sometimes they wouldn't even walk around it. As for Buttons being cornered well Buttons would have been fighting by kicking, rearing and striking out with his hooves and biting. If one has never seen a vicious horse well I've seen them lift a full grown man with their mouth and fling him to the ground. Just once a bit of realism with a horse's true reaction would have been nice.
@patriciamillin-j3s2 жыл бұрын
I get your point, you obviously know horses, but realism isn’t really what the show deals with or wastes time and money on. There’s so much in there that isn’t realistic, like how do walkers keep their shoes on, especially if they’re wearing slip-in shoes like ballerina flats. Those things aren’t really important to the show’s storyline and it would probably be too difficult to observe all those issues to keep it at that level of realness. The horse was meant to die here, so are they going to waste five minutes of the episode showing how the horse fights back?
@emmaaaa10042 жыл бұрын
@@patriciamillin-j3sI agree. I think the case with horses as well is that such a scene would require a lot of training and would also be dangerous. We have to remember that the walkers are extras and real humans. Having a horse kick and bite them, if only pretend, would be very dangerous and very difficult to film so I understand why they let the scene play out the way it did even if I don’t fully understand the purpose of killing another horse other than making it a bonding moment for Daryl and Aaron.
@patriciamillin-j3s2 жыл бұрын
@@emmaaaa1004 Absolutely correct. Why they do it is also beyond me, maybe because the horse is used to distract walkers away from people, like in season one with Rick. If the walkers hadn’t gone for the horse, it would’ve been harder for him to get away, so animals in general serve as a distraction to allow our guys a quick getaway. We have also seen deer and other animals killed in the show.

Me at parties: 10:00 "idk about this..." "they have beer." "I'll give it a shot." Season 5 is such a change of pace for the series. It goes into some interesting places and really makes you start to think differently about the group a bit. It's all so tense and uncomfortable and was a huge change of pace for the series. I love how Carol slips right into the soccer mom facade like an old suit. She's obviously relishing the advantages of social invisibility, but I used to think she was being a wolf in sheep's clothing, now being in the process of rewatching the series again, I just think she also went native because she didn't want to rattle the community, because she knew that they'd be uncomfortable around a bunch of wild people. She's definitely cynical, but she's expressing it in this weirdly maternal manner which I think she definitely grows into more as the series progresses. Her character work is so much better in the series than in the comic (where she's been dead for ages by the time everybody gets to Alexandria because comic Carol never actually grew out of her scared little bird persona even after Ed died.)

This is one of my favorite episodes to analyze with regards to characterization. If you'll excuse me while I go on a bit of a ramble lmao I especially like the interactions between Aaron and Daryl in this episode. That scene in the garage is amazing. Daryl is going through quite a bit of internal struggle with not fitting in and with feeling different. With his childhood being the way it was, I suspect he has always felt like that, but outside of Alexandria, he at least knew where he stood more firmly. Daryl has had to survive all his life. He knows how to do that. He does *not* know how to make small talk with strangers at a dinner party. It's actually a really interesting contrast with Carol, who shares a similar history with Daryl, but reacts to Alexandria in the complete opposite way. She is able to pull on her Sweet-Harmless-Housewife mask immediately because that is what *her* survival looked like for a long time. Aaron notices Daryl's discomfort immediately, and brings up his own experience to let Daryl know that he isn't alone. He sort of verbalizes a lot of what Daryl must be feeling but does not know how to say out loud. I relate to both Aaron and Daryl quite a bit. I have always felt more or less like an outsider. I suffered childhood abuse and when I was young I could never fully relate to, or open up to my peers who seemed to have functional and loving families. When I was a teenager, I also realized I'm gay. It's who I am and I wouldn't change it for the world, but it does sometimes make me feel disconnected from others. Every new person I meet, every new workplace I join, I feel nervous about coming out. If I don't, I won't feel properly "in" the group (and will have to listen to a bunch of heteronormative talk) but if I do, I might be treated negatively. It's like there's always an extra layer of caution there between me and other people, even when I kind of want to reach out. Much like Daryl hanging out outside that party, debating on if he should join it or not. I guess this is one of the reasons I absolutely love stories like The Walking Dead. Found families are very special to me, and TWD is full of them.
@patriciamillin-j3s2 жыл бұрын
Love your character analyses. I suppose you have to go through things in life to be able to understand others better, how they tick. I myself wasn’t abused but my older sister was, and the family was very dysfunctional. It took me a long time to feel comfortable with small talk. Although I’m hetero, I do understand what it must be like for you when faced with new situations and constantly having to “feel out” whether to open up or not. I hate that you are forced by society to constantly have to deal with that. I just wish that we as a whole could come to a place where we understand and take every human being for who they are. Homosexuality is a normal part of life in general, and it’s high time people accepted it as such.

Carol's interaction with Sam when he caught her getting the guns was so scary. Normally I would have hated that scene but it told so much about Carol. She not only wants him to keep the secret but also she no longer wants to be close to children. This episode plays such an important role in future episodes.

I’m super surprised that Rosita hasn’t gotten aggravated with how much attention Abe spends on Sasha. He hasn’t spoken to Michonne that much or Daryl or Rick.

Fun fact, this is about the time the comics had reached when the very first episode released October 31st 2010 I swear I've been doing one of these every video now😂 Extra fun fact, both the comic and the show could've ended pretty much at this point if they weren't that popular but they really wanted to do more, thank God :)

@@kimberlywilmoth9184 agree he isn’t a good man but I just like how Shane was ahead of his time by the things he did and say he may of been a bad guy then but looking back on Shane he wasn’t really that bad he was just ahead of his time.

Song at the end was early Bee Gee's. I ended up going through their entire discography, despite previously deriding them as "that lame disco band." Thanks to The Walking Dead, I discovered they did way more than disco and also came to appreciate their disco stuff too.

My daughter started watching years before myself. She always said Carol reminds her of me. I had only ever SEEN Carol and I didn't get it. It wasn't until this season, specifically the scene with Sam, that clued me in to why she thought that. I get it now. :)

In some aspects season 5 Rick reminds me of Shane. He has become more brutal since season 1 and more distrusting... But there are things that Shane has done that Rick would never do - like the Shane-Lori-scene in 1x6 when Shane was drunk. Btw. The song at the end was Spicks and Specks by The Bee Gees. It's a weird but kinda fitting Song for TWD.

True. But Rick is showing himself slightly like shane in the sense that he’s willing to list after another mans wife.

Hey guys....a good episode! Sasha is suffering from PTSD from simply loosing so much so quickly, I feel for her but as we saw, Abraham also suffers from PTSD probably from when he was in the military. The cast still misses bein outside the walks. Rick lays on the wall to feel and hear the walkers, him and Carl being outside the walls and start tag teaming the walkers. I guess when you've been out there for so long you want comfort but in some ways they miss the struggle of surviving....weird to say but I get it!

Enid is a Welsh name that means spirit or life. Decades ago I worked in an assisted living facility. I met an Enid then. I've met a little girl with the name more recently. I happen to adore the name Enid.

For me, this season deals with that transition - How much of yourself do you lose before you are unable to get it back? It's low-key scary in the true sense. I think scenes like the one Carol are great moments where you really are supposed to be scared for them, and not in terms of their physical safety.

Comic Comparisons : The party goes down exactly the way it does on the show except it’s not Sasha who blows up because she doesn’t exist in the comics rather it’s Michonne.

My mom watched the first episode. She loved horses. After they killed the horse in the pilot she told me would never watch it again. I finally convinced her to watch again and it just so happened to be this episode. She thought I was just trying to get her to watch the horses get killed.

“The beard’s gone…” Did anybody else find it funny that Rick’s beard grew wild, while Abraham’s was always groomed, Daryl just kept his stubbles, Glenn had absolutely no beard? The same with the hair: Rick and Daryl were the only ones whose hair grew wild. I mean, they were all out there together, shouldn’t they all look equally dishevelled?

Hey, Rob & Trin. This was, and continues to be, one of my all time favorite Rick moments. I think it's understated, and perhaps underappreciated. The way he instinctively reaches for his revolver with that deranged look on his face, like taking a page out of Shane's book... Scenes like this really throw Rick's transformation in the viewer's face, only further emphasized by their current setting, and the fact that he's dressed as an officer of the law again. ("Officer friendly," anyone?) Rick standing by the wall at the end of the episode feels like a very introspective moment as well. From the acting to the music ("The sun in my life, it is dead. It is dead.") - never fails to send chills down my spine. What do you think was going through Rick's mind, in that moment? Looking forward to more reactions, keep it up!
