I just thought about the episode more and specifically the "plot-hole" at the end of the episode. So, at the end, the present duo say that lip-syncing is lame, but the future versions don't think that way, so what happened to make the future versions think that? This is what I think. So Mordecai realizes that they're lip-syncing when he drops his pick during the performance and the music doesn't stop, leading him to see the music player and him turning off the music. I think that since this episode is obviously based on time-loops (being that this isn't the first time these events are happening) the first time that this happened, Mordecai didn't drop his pick, making him not realize that they were lip-syncing and finished the song, they were cheered and loved, maybe Margaret even asked Mordecai out. They learned later on that they were just lip-syncing, but due to fame and fortune, they didn't care and just kept doing it. But that's just a theory... A BAD THEORY!
