I had to laugh about, not at, the "bottoms up" idiom in the conversation with the host because I have done the same thing when speaking English with my Spanish-speaking friends. One time, I was talking with a fellow from Peru who used the phrase, "Don't upset the apple cart," and my adult son started laughing, telling me, Dad, there is no way he could understand that. I am sure I will be in the host's shoes when I come to El Salvador, which is, BTW, next week. Every culture has these almost inexplicable idioms we use that everybody understands instantly but might be a little difficult to explain or harder yet to explain where they came from. Anyway, it was fun watching this video. My Salvadoran wife and I are going to a wedding anniversary party next week in Santa Ana for a couple in their 60s who we met in SoCal last month. Your experience gives me an idea of what to expect at this upcoming party in El Salvador. In a while, crocodile,☺
