There’s an upgrade you can get in the BB League club room that lets you see if a Pokémon has a mark before you catch it when you hold ZL on it. It would show a yellow ribbon if it has a mark.

When I was duping dream balls, I noticed this will also pop up on wild pokemon with ribbons. I used my Giratina from HGSS who had the Legend Ribbon from beating Red (idk if being big helped or not, but I rolled with it).

Upon watching the intro, I remembered I actually DID get a shiny with the Destiny Mark on my birthday last year! It wasn't really what I was going for (I think I was going for Tynamo/Eelektrik, but got Wattrel) but still very cool!

Also can relate I try to shiny hunt Applin and it took weeks and on my birthday on the I think 5th sandwhich it finally showed up and I did everything to shiny hunt for it like masuda method,outbreaks,sandwhiches,raids,Afk mode, etc It pretty much was a disaster like yours was but I did end up with a shiny applin in the end,he's now a dipplin named Caramel

A decent idea might be to upgrade your lock on feature in the indigo disk so you can tell if a pokemon will have a mark or not. Just an idea it's helpful sometimes
