@@user-oz9ku7me4c Absolutely agree with you. China must be credited with its handling of Covid-19 and keeping its 1.4 billion population safe, the ramification of which is immense. China keeps "the factory of the world" operating and continue supplying the whole world besides maintaining social order. It's the only country to register positive GDP (Gross Domestic Products) numbers for 2020 and 2021 and has laid a strong new foundation. Western mainstream media has been quiet about this fact because it doesn't fit into their narrative. The Chinese government is the best model in the world and we can see it.

Many achievements in China are very useful for the Vietnamese to learn and carry out economic, scientific and technical cooperation. I hope that Vietnam and China will limit their disagreements over the South China Sea. Now in Vietnam there is still a lack of correct and sufficient information about China, partly because China is weak in PR. Many Vietnamese are still Pro American. Vietnamese newspapers often quote and translate from Western media, most of which are dishonest and distorted news about China. This is really a well-spent 30 minutes listening to Pascal Coppens' insight into China's past and present. I'm particularly moved by Pascal's deep knowledge on the common prosperity goal whereas China wants to expand the size of its middle class to avoid the trap of the top 10% own 90% of the nation's wealth. This is something that even the intended beneficiaries in Chinese society failed to understand properly and some went so far as to compare it to robbing the rich to give to the poor -- the way Western media bad-mouthed China on the crackdown on the billionaires and predicted the impending death of Chinese high-tech industry. Bravo, Pascal.

The following is what I borrowed from a Malaysian KZbinr’s comment: I’m from Malaysia. China has traded with Malaysia for 2000 years. In those years, they had been the world’s biggest powers many times. Never once they sent troops to take our land. Admiral Zhenghe came to Malacca five times, in gigantic fleets, and a flagship eight times the size of Christopher Columbus’ flagship, Santa Maria. He could have seized Malacca easily, but he did not. In 1511, the Portuguese came. In 1642, the Dutch came. In the 18th century the British came. We were colonised by each, one after another. When China wanted spices from India, they traded with the Indians. When they wanted gems, they traded with the Persian. They didn’t take lands. The only time China expanded beyond their current borders was in Yuan Dynasty, when Genghis and his descendants Ogedei Khan, Guyuk Khan & Kublai Khan concurred China, Mid Asia and Eastern Europe. But Yuan Dynasty, although being based in China, was a part of the Mongolian Empire. Then came the Century of Humiliation. Britain smuggled opium into China to dope the population, a strategy to turn the trade deficit around, after the British could not find enough silver to pay the Qing Dynasty in their tea and porcelain trades. After the opium warehouses were burned down and ports were closed by the Chinese in ordered to curb opium, the British started the Opium War I, which China lost. Hong Kong was forced to be surrendered to the British in a peace talk (Nanjing Treaty). The British owned 90% of the opium market in China, during that time, Queen Victoria was the world’s biggest drug baron. The remaining 10% was owned by American merchants from Boston. Many of Boston’s institutions were built with profit from opium. After 12 years of Nanjing Treaty, the West started getting really really greedy. The British wanted the Qing government: 1. To open the borders of China to allow goods coming in and out freely, and tax free. 2. Make opium legal in China. Insane requests, Qing government said no. The British and French (with supports from the US), started Opium War II with China, which again, China lost. The Anglo-French military raided the Summer Palace, and threatened to burn down the Imperial Palace, the Qing government was forced to pay with ports, free business zones, 300,000 kilograms of silver and Kowloon was taken. Since then, China’s resources flew out freely through these business zones and ports. In the subsequent amendment to the treaties, Chinese people were sold overseas to serve as labor. In 1900, China suffered attacks by the 8-National Alliance (Empire of Japan, Russian Empire, British Empire (including India), France, USA, Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary). Innocent Chinese civilians in Peking (Beijing now) were murdered, buildings were destroyed & women were raped. The Imperial Palace was raided, and treasures ended up in museums like the British Museum in London and the Louvre in Paris. In late 1930s China was occupied by the Japanese in WWII. Millions of Chinese died during the occupancy. 300,000 Chinese died in Nanjing Massacre alone. Mao brought China together again from the shambles. There were peace and unity for some time. But Mao’s later reign saw sufferings and deaths from famine and power struggles. Then came Deng Xiao Ping and his infamous “black-cat and white-cat” story. His preference in pragmatism than ideologies has transformed China. This thinking allowed China to evolve all the time to adapt to the actual needs in the country, instead of rigidly bounded to ideologies. It also signified the death of Communism in actually practice in China. The current Socialism+Meritocracy+Market Economy model fits the Chinese like gloves, and it propels the uprise of China. Singapore has a similar model, and has been arguably more successful than Hong Kong, because Hong Kong being gateway to China, was riding on the economic boom in China, while Singapore had no one to gain from. In just 30 years, the CPC have moved 800 millions of people out from poverty. The rate of growth is unprecedented in human history. They have built the biggest mobile network, by far the biggest high speed rail network in the world, and they have become a behemoth in infrastructure. They made a fishing village called Shenzhen into the world’s second largest technological centre after the Silicon Valley. They are growing into a technological power house. It has the most elaborate e-commerce and cashless payment system in the world. They have launched exploration to Mars. The Chinese are living a good life and China has become one of the safest countries in the world. The level of patriotism in the country has reached an unprecedented height. For all of the achievements, the West has nothing good to say about it. China suffers from intense anti-China propagandas from the West. Western Media used the keyword “Communist” to instil fear and hatred towards China. Everything China does is negatively reported. They claimed China used slave labor in making iPhones. The truth was, Apple was the most profitable company in the world, it took most of the profit, leave some to Foxconn (a Taiwanese company) and little to the labor. They claimed China was inhuman with one-child policy. At the same time, they accused China of polluting the earth with its huge population. The fact is the Chinese consume just 30% of energy per capita compared to the US. Minorities in China Show me any currency in the world which also prints the language of its ethinc minorities. Chinese bank notes show 5 languages of 5 minorities living in China, including Tibetan and Uyghur. They claimed China underwent ethnic cleansing in Xinjiang. The fact is China has a policy which priorities ethnic minorities. For a long time, the ethnic minorities were allowed to have two children and the majority Han only allowed one. The minorities are allowed a lower score for university intakes. Muslims students get Halal food at the university cafeteria. There are 39,000 mosque in China, and 2100 in the US. China has about 3 times more mosque per muslim than the US. When terrorist attacks happened in Xinjiang, China had two choices: 1. Re-educate the Uighur extremists before they turned terrorists. 2. Let them be, after they launch attacks and killed innocent people, bomb their homes. China chose 1 to solve problem from the root and not to do killing. How the US solve terrorism? Fire missiles from battleships, drop bombs from the sky. During the pandemic, When China took extreme measures to lockdown the people, they were accused of being inhuman. When China recovered swiftly because of the extreme measures, they were accused of lying about the actual numbers. When China’s cases became so low that they could provide medical support to other countries, they were accused of politically motivated. Western Media always have reasons to bash China. Just like any country, there are irresponsible individuals from China which do bad and dirty things, but the China government overall has done very well. But I hear this comment over and over by people from the West: I like Chinese people, but the CPC is evil. What they really want is the Chinese to change the government, because the current one is too good. Fortunately China is not a multi-party democratic country, otherwise the opposition party in China will be supported by notorious NGOs (Non-Government Organization) of the USA, like the NED (National Endowment for Democracy), to topple the ruling party. The US and the British couldn’t crack Mainland China, so they work on Hong Kong. Of all the ex-British colonial countries, only the Hong Kongers were offered BNOs by the British. Because the UK would like the Hong Kongers to think they are British citizens, not Chinese. A divide-and-conquer strategy, which they often used in Color Revolutions around the world. They resort to low dirty tricks like detaining Huawei’s CFO & banning Huawei. They raised a silly trade war which benefits no one. Trade deficit always exist between a developing and a developed country. USA is like a luxury car seller who ask a farmer: why am I always buying your vegetables and you haven’t bought any of my cars? When the Chinese were making socks for the world 30 years ago, the world let it be. But when Chinese started to make high technology products, like Huawei and DJI, it caused red-alert. Because when Western and Japanese products are equal to Chinese in technologies, they could never match the Chinese in prices. First world countries want China to continue in making socks. Instead of stepping up themselves, they want to pull China down. The recent movement by the US against China has a very important background. When Libya, Iran, and China decided to ditch the US dollar in oil trades, Gaddafi’s was killed by the US, Iran was being sanctioned by the US, and now it’s China’s turn. The US has been printing money out of nothing. The only reason why the US Dollar is still widely accepted, is because it’s the only currency which oil is allowed to be traded with. The US has an agreement with Saudi that oil must be traded in US dollar ONLY. Without the petrol-dollar status, the US dollars will sink, and America will fall. Therefore anyone trying to disobey this order will be eliminated. China will soon use a gold-backed crypto-currency, the alarms in the White House go off like mad. China’s achievements and success have been by hard work. Not by looting and plundering the world. I have deep respect and love for China for all the suffering and the hardship they endured, but now I feel happy for them. China is not rising, they are going back to where they belong. Its quite sad that America and the Western Countries who are recognised as Christian nations are not able to abide by the teachings of Christianity as well as the way in which China does it. Luke 3:10-14 says: “What should we do then?” the crowd asked. John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.” Even tax collectors came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?” “Don’t collect any more than you are required to,” he told them. Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely-be content with your pay.” Acts 4:32-34 says: Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. Food for thought: Is Capitalism more of resemblance to those verses or communism?

During the days of the industrial revolution, only a few rich people benefitted from it. The working class were also exploited in the name of capitalism. Instead of giving one shirt if you have two, they try to even take what the poor has. People had to work for long hours for very low wages. Under these conditions, labour unions had to be born else the working class would have continued to be exploited, and labour unions are not supposed to exist under a purely capitalistic economy and neither should modern concepts such as "Corporate Social Responsibility" exist under it. The introduction of these meant that elements of communism were introduced into those so-called capitalist nations. They fail to realise that the capitalism they are so proud of is not really capitalism in the true sense but somewhere in between the continuum between Capitalist and Communism. In terms of human rights, they go around policing other countries when their own home is plagued with such violations. There are certain kinds of people who have assumed that black people were suspicious just upon seeing them when in reality, the person was just minding his business. Even the police were guilty of falsely accusing a black student saying that they were trespassing on a property of a college dorm without any proof when in reality, he was a student there. And this is one such case among others that I came across on the internet. And like you said, they go and start wars if others do not agree with them. One such war is briefly explained in this article: www.thoughtco.com/vietnam-war-s2-1779964. The early Christians were more of Communists than Capitalists. They pooled their wealth together which was then used to help the poor and the needy. Many of the wealth came from people who sold their property which they then donated freely. Today, the act of charity is also somewhat a type of communism. When a Christian donates their wealth, they do so with the idea that everything that they have is provided by God and that it is their duty to take out a part of what they receive and return it to God in the form of giving it to their neighbours (a.k.a those in need). It existed even during the time of Jacob in Genesis first mentioned in Genesis 28:20-22, and continues to be taught in Churches today. Acts 4:32-34 says: Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. Capitalism if done without Government intervention at all tends to motivate people to seek out ways to earn profit even when the means of doing so are questionable. It tends to promote inequality in the distribution of wealth. And just to clarify, although the verses in Acts 4:32-34 suggests of Communism is only about selling your property and giving to others, in reality it is just one part of the Bible and does not reject individual benefit. Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." When everyone is looking out for each other, everyone benefits, even the one who is doing the giving as there is satisfaction in giving as well as receiving. Practically, when taking into account the scale of a nation, its not possible if its left to individual decision. A government's intervention is required to unite the efforts of the people for the common good.

China's growth is driven by export, internal market, and infrastructure. While the export market (including US) is still extremely good, China is taking this window to deleverage the internal economy, including the real estates, the banking, debts, bad business practices (such as monopolies, abuse of data collections, etc),... When the export market withers with stagnation, China will have rooms to drive the domestic demands (such as increase in salaries of government workers, SOEs).

Really appreciate your candid review of the problems China have. It's so rare to watch something like this these days, since when it comes to china you get either western fake news or Chinese propaganda but very rarely anything in between. Thanks for a calm and well-thought summary. As an overseas Chinese who's been abroad for 10 years, i'd say the PR was the the biggest grief for me, since it's always kind of "in my face", how many state media just fail to see some of the things they say sounds like to a western audience. It feels like they had a good hand yet they squandered it. The only guy I think who does it well is Eric Li, but he's more of a business guy. To be fair, English is really different from Chinese, so to be able to speak it fluently and articulate well-thought arguments at the same time is very demanding for the average Chinese person to say the least. But if there's one thing about China, is that it's been better-than-average at delivering miracles, so I'm cautiously optimistic. And of course there's always non-official youtube channels like daniel dumbrill or cyrus janseen.

I share your sentiments regarding China's PR department, it clearly needs an improvement of sorts. Just take CGTN for example, it's an English-language Chinese media, but it has a difficult time convincing Western audiences. Many Westerners hardly believe what Chinese media says, even though they often quote data and statistics on their videos. This shows that CGTN's approach is just not effective. Whereas Western propaganda is very effective, almost everyone blindly believe what Western MSM says about China, even when it's unsubstantiated by proof.

If you think Eric Li does a good job for CCP PR then in my opinion you are wrong. Unless he has changed recently. Same goes for daniel dumbrill and cyrus janseen. Since the 19th Century, many Westerners have grown comfortable with the notion of Western dominance, so much such that the very thought of a *non-Western, non-Liberal Democratic* country like China surpassing the United States someday is simply too frightening for many Westerners (but not all) to fathom. This is evident from the fact that many Western institutions of democracies are seemingly crumbling and imploding upon themselves, without any input from China, so they try all sorts of ways to pin their failings of their democratic institutions onto China that's all.

Common Prosperity is not propaganda. It is a change in society for common good. It is about the collective. It is a cornerstone of what socialism is. There's no doubt about the intent and targeted outcomes. The only concern is how successful it will be. Not questioning the policy itself, but whether the Chinese people will respond collectively, uplifting a wide cross-section of the population, not through direct Government intervention, but through private efforts and initiatives. If it happens, it will set a new high water mark for human society.

As of today, for the lifetime of my channel, here are the stats: USA: 18,6%: Malaysia: 15,4%; Singapore 8,8%; Canada: 7,3%; Australia 5,5%; India 5,1%; U.K. 3,8%; Indonesia 3,1%; Hong Kong 3%; Philippines 2,7%; Brazil: 2,2%; Mainland China 1,4%: Germany 1,3%; Taiwan 1,3%; Netherlands: 1,2%; Thailand 1%. All other countries below 1%. Some observations: - Half of my followers are from Western countries, and over one-third from native English speaking countries. I have no idea how many overseas Chinese make up that audience in these countries, but from the comments it is not the majority. - My own home country Belgium is 0,7%, so reaching a global audience. - Note sure what 1,4% from China means, unless that is Chinese with access to Google in China not on VPN?? Are these Chinese in the world that have put their country of origin on Google as 'China'? Anybody an idea? - Taiwan is mentioned separately, which is strange for Google as only countries are visible as geographies.

They need to understand that at international level PR is more than a press release and international audience is very much different than local PR. The "ten years behind" means that their current state is equal to that of the United States in 2011. It goes from present to the past. It's not in terms of how many years they need to catch up.
