I'm from the island of Nukufetau in Tuvalu, I understand most of the words his saying in this story, I think this language is the original language of my people. Our language now is so much changing due to the arrival of the good news, and the learning of the Samoan language so we can understand the Bible. Anyway we are all proud Polynesian.

Thank you for your comment. According to linguistic studies, Kapingamarangi language is most close to Tuvaluan language. According to their origin story, their ancestor Udamadua was originated from Tamana (now inhabited by Micronesian people but was probably occupied by Polynesian people at that time) and sailed to "Nukuhetau" (probably your island, Nukufetau) before arriving on Kapingamarangi. So Kapaingamarangi people probably had the common ancestors as yours and are cousins of Tuvalu people.

My husband say the premise of a "Buakai" is at the end of story. Sort of like 'the moral of the story is'. That these stories are told every night before kids goes to bed. That in doing so, the kids brains are stimulated. That being good and compassionate is a must for islanders who are isolated in the mids of a big ocean.
