My Premier Project Plans: paskmakes.com/...
My Free Plans: paskmakes.com/...
Recently we bought a new truck and I decided straight away I would build some drawers for the back. They came out great and will be perfect for keeping things organised, especially when camping. The drawer slides work very well and much cheaper than buying them, $230 a pair was the cheapest I could find for the size I needed. Hopefully I've shown enough here to help you build your own but if you need more info on this style of runner then you should find plenty with a search.
We are about to set off on a family road trip and I finished these just in time! The bad news is we're going for two and a half weeks so there won't be a new video for a while. I'll get straight back to it as soon as we get home! ;)
As always I'm happy to answer any questions.

My husband made these way back in the 60's when he was starting out as an electrician. The last time he made them for his work trucks, he made the outer box with sheet metal. The drawers are still wood with locking metal fronts and track rollers. We have them in the mini van to store beach chairs and camping stuff. He's made me all kinds of stuff, a built in bed with under bed storage boxes.

Father built set for full size truck in 70s had sheet metal wrapped around them, resized for his toyota in 1980. Lasted until I sold the truck. built similar for out large work beds f350 etc... Great build but I do not like how they are not removable, getting ready to build a set for my Lighting and currently planning on using bolts holding bed down to anchor in place because of the short 5'6" bed.

By far the beat version I’ve seen, beats the £186 drawer runners I was looking at and looks a lot more industrial. I’ll be using this on a van style fit out as I have windows in my van all round so keeps praying eyes at bay! 👍🏻

I would have put some hinges on the front top section so I could access drawer without pull out if needed. Loved the glides you created, great idea and saves money over pricey glides. I will be using that myself. Thanks for a great video!!

I don't have one, but I drill a pilot hole, then use a drill bit the size of the screw head and chase the pilot hole with it to a depth where the head sits hidden. Not as good or consistent, but it still works.

When doing the corners of fabric, fold the corners so they overlap then make one 45 cut threw both then they will have a perfectly matching seam so u don’t need to use the marker to hide the gap.

When I built mine I didn't use any kind of slide mechanism - just lubed everything with paste wax. A good fit between the drawers and case supported them just fine. Yours are absolutely much nicer, but mine were 2" wider for not having slides. I used them as a contractor for years until I traded work trucks. Just saying that you can get an awful lot of utility out of a simpler design if you want. Great video!

Work of art. Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship, executed well as can be. I love watching people do something they are real good at. I am no carpenter , I try though. Mostly stuff for my wife’s animals. I get motivated to do better by watching these guys who know their stuff. I can barley get a straight cut with a circle saw. It’s the only power saw I have to work with . I can’t wait to get me a miter saw , band saw, jig saw , all the saws!!!

Great build, I made very large drawers that weigh 300 pounds each loaded, paste furniture wax wood on wood, slides great, no need for center support, the drawers give the top support, my top slides in and out, just have groves on left and right side to hold it in place , paste wax everything, I can pull the drawers in and out with one hand and no room wasted with drawer slides or bearings, the drawers stay put when driving. Should have built them years ago. I did use glue and pocket screws.

Just built and install a 5×4×20 inch tall workbox in my 2003 Ram standard cab and bed pickup. Has two large drawers with casters and bearing casters. Just did fit, was worried because I kept changing things all along, and I do mean it was tight.I have a hard fiberglass tonnou cover and it barely touched when I closed it,and I had to shove it between the wheel wells. Pretty cool though, now I can reach something all the way in the back by simply opening a drawer. Got tired of struggling to reach things around the cover arms and other crap.Should have built it years ago.

I hadn't watched 20 seconds of the video before I comented before,I see you also used the bearings. I just happened to see them at harbour freight when I was halfway into the build. I got obsessed with it and now have a small wood shop in what was supposed to be my bedroom in a house I just bought 3 months ago. Up till 3 am trying to run a chop saw quietly and drill and drive slowly. Stopped cutting at 9:30pm because my neighbors house is right there .Maybe 10:15 at times. I got lucky and the lady started spending the night at her boyfriends half the time so when I was sure she was gone I got it done no matter what time it was. My dog still thinks I'm crazy but shes getting used to it now. Got to many things to build now. Wish I would have done this years ago,I would say it helps me relax but 3am hurts the next day when you gotta go to work.
