I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up kzbin.infoUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.

Built these drawers about two years ago and installed them in my Ram 1500, with a 6 foot bed. They are awesome. The plans are well worth the cost. I'm a professional electrician and these drawers are great for what I do every day. I even got fancy and built my own bed slide type pullout on top of the drawers. Really pleased with everything. Thanks for the instructions and the plans!

Know how you feel as well. Im a jman electrician who just started with an hvac company. They gave me a truck that has a canopy with some shelving on the outside and it comes with a sliding floor in the box. A pack rat box like this would be perfect since the shelving on the sides hold shit,and the slide out can basically only handle my cable reels. But theres so many little pieces in our trade, that you need as many drawers as possible haha.

The first half of the kzbin.infoUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

I just built these for my Ram. I’m definitely not a carpenter or woodworker and it shows. But the plans were easy to follow and make adjustments to for my auxiliary fuel tank. I’m a mobile rv repair technician and these drawers will definitely keep me more organized. I highly recommend buying the plans. Doing it yourself will save you thousands of dollars compared to buying the prefabricated drawer systems.

I am handyman who works out of my truck. I built draws like this for my F150 about 6 years ago. I used ½" ball casters for the drawers to slide on. But I really like this plastic strip idea. My drawers are still going strong and work better than I could have imagined. They don't lock but my tailgate does. And for "handles" I just cut 3½" slots in the drawers. To seal the drawers I used construction glue along along with screws, and I also used chaulking along the seams. Then I used a garage floor sealer or the outer coating and just did each side of the box individually. On the top I added the traction shavings that come with the sealer kit. But honestly, I would rather have the top be smooth. It's nice to have tools with you and still be able to have a bed to a certain degree. I have thought about adding a canopy to my bed with side access windows or sides. But at the same time I like the roll back bed cover I currently have. Really enjoyed your making of this and the shaving of the beard was epic.

I love the editing! The video cut straight to the important parts and we weren't left there waiting for you to line everything up and get your tools in position. When you were ready to pop the chalk line, that's exactly where you went with the video. When you drilled in those screws it went one screw to the next without any lag time in between. I don't have a truck and I'm not interested in putting drawers in my van but I still like the video!

after much arguing back and forth with myself about the best slide solution. I have decided to use your solution for the slides on my kayak trailer build. I plan to have 3 drawers slide out the back of the box the two outside drawers will hold our fishing kayak paddles, floatation and swivel seats plus other camping gear. The center long pull out won't be so much a drawer but a rod and reel caddy that can be pulled out after all other gear has been added to the kayaks. We've had our kayaks for like a year and still have yet to put them in the water. So hoping to have this build done before the end of summer to take on a trip. Thanks for the ideas from your video.

Very cool! I've built 3 of these for trucks I've owned since the mid 90's, but none currently. All have been treated, due to no bed cap. I've used laminate strips under drawers and on top of floor. 2 were painted before ACQ happened, last one was epoxy painted. I never used a latch of any kind (yours is very cool), I did add lighting on the last one. 2x8 is bare minimum for height in my opinion, 2x6, 2x8,and last was 2x12.

Love it! I plan on making one at some point, I like your locking mechanism, simple and strong. I did want to share one thing with you about bending metal in your vise. When I was younger my dad and I were working on something and we clamped some steel in the vise, gave it a couple swift hits-and broke the front of the vise off! We were told later by an older gentleman that when you pound on a vise make sure the force only goes onto the stationary jaw, not the movable one. Just thought I’d pass on that wisdom. Keep up the great work! God bless and Merry Christmas

Those are great!! I used to work at Los Angeles Unified School Dist. Maint. & Oper's. in the glass dept. All of the truck had this same system. The only difference is that they were deeper, were surrounded by a steel frame work in the bed and opened and closed on steel rollers. There was enough room in the drawers for a small compartment in each one for screws, hand tools and other needed items. The bed was then covered with 14 ga. steel sheet to enclose the top and the glass rack was installed last. Locks were installed on the tailgate next to the rear end of the fenders. That kept everything secure while the truck was unattended...

Great work, one minor nitpicky thing I would suggest would be instead of screwing your pull handles in, to use quarter inch bolts and washers through the wood. Over time screws seem to weaken, especially if you have heavy things in the drawers, or if the drawers get wet from time to time.

Nice drawers,i was a professional builder guy and used them a lot, i found that my friends set didn't slide well after awhile, i used 3/4 in plywood and dadoed all the drawer fronts because i knew the drawers would be heavy ,i also dadoed 2 oak strips into the bottom of each drawer and put high impact plastic where they slid. I used them for 10 yrs and they worked great. don't know if anyone appreciates it but there you go. oh,i also made sliding trays ,which were nice because so much stuff like hoses cords and saws go in low.and the top trays keep everything flat .

Nice, simple, and well done. I might do this for my old truck A few tips though, use actual wood screws throughout, not just in some spots. Drywall screws are a poor choice for wood working. They work great for holding drywall, but dont have the strength needed and corrode and break too easily for woodworking. I used to do a lot of deck building and find that deck screws work great for things like this that need a bit of extra strength. I use red Chapstick for what you used the lipstick for. It's not quite as visible, but it works, is cheaper, and doesn't piss off the better half. I've also used a dab of lithium grease or a tiny dab of craft paint before with good results. I loved the chisel shave!. I used to shave with my KA-BAR out in the field every once in a while, just to freak out the boots. It's a bit harder since the blade is so much longer.

I made a set of these using 3/4 sanded ply for almost all of it with a 12" tall box for my F-150 8' bed - then built some sliding internal boxes within the drawers... so far so good. One issue was the UHMW - cheaper to buy a whole sheet than pay for shipping. I used pocket screws and glue - Temperature changes were an issue with the UHMW temp swings were 35 - 75 degrees during the build - hoping the weight of the drawers will solve any issues going forward - I live in AZ - the real test will be the long hot summer - good project - next phase is a rolling truck bed to mount to the top - I think I will have my welder build it for me instead of more wood and a bunch of bearings or maybe use 8020... I don't have a tailgate so I mounted the whole project to the truck bed with rivet nuts - my new favorite thing - cant wait to find more uses for these babies

13:31 I swore that you were installing a bottle cap opener to the end of your drawers but they turned out to be handles for your creation.

I love that rivet idea nice. Love this build. I always wanted to build one to carry hunting gear but never did because I sometimes put the quad in back of truck. Too bad I should have but just made it stronger where wheels go

I noticed you didn't have any retention device to keep those drawers in their respective slots, or to keep them from accidentally being pulled too far out, was that done on purpose?

The tailgate holds them from falling out, its towards the end of the video.
@EDOutdoors91
@EDOutdoors91 6 жыл бұрын
@@mjrwey no the tailgate holds the weight. He was meaning if you pull on the drawers eventually they will come out. Usually there is some sort of stopping block or something in place so that when you pull on them eventually it will stop the drawer from coming all the way out of the frame.

@@EDOutdoors91 From looking at the past video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXyXqayabJaKias) I think it was intentional. It makes it easy to take out the drawers if you wanted to keep them somewhere else like the garage. I guess you could take the whole unit out as well.

The only way to get handy is to Flock stuff up!!!! You will not build a inlay jewelry box for your Mom the first time but with you tube, family, classes and practice you can become very handy. Being able to watch someone do something is such a great asset to learning, Biggest thing is do not get discouraged, Build simple stuff the best you can, then focus on what was not great and do better the next time.

When I was very young, my grandpa repeatedly told me if I wanted to do something bad enough I would find a way to do it. I am now in my 60s and have always found that to be the most true statement in my life. I will add, have fun while you are doing it.

damn, that is nice! been racking my brain for how to do just this for my '98 Tacoma (still running strong!). i was close but this fills the gaps and anticipates design issues i hadn't considered. many thanks! p.s. my guess is your bed is intentionally slanted for drainage purposes, which i'm painfully aware of because my canopy leaks...

zverina I have a 98 Tacoma as well, I have a significant lean forward after my OME suspension upgrade so I just put a couple drainage holes up near the cab... sure it looks like a dog marking it’s territory in a rainstorm, but I don’t have a manky swimming pool in my truck bed anymore either.
