Designing a unique looking marking knife that's comfortable and works well was quite a challenge. I think I did it, and it was much easier to make the knife, then to design it. I wasn't confident that it would work out, so that's why I made a test one first. I reckon this knife making project turned out pretty cool though, and I was excited to make another.
I also thought it would be great to have a scratch awl and a marking knife all in one tool. I have a metal scriber that is two ended and I like that so that's why I went ahead with that idea.
I've decided to give the new marking knife to one of my supporters on Patreon as I don't need two marking knives and it's a chance to say thank you for their amazing support!
As always I'm happy to answer any questions.

I had to rewatch this because I just received my Pask Makes marking knife and it’s glorious! If you’re on the fence don’t be, I can’t describe how beautiful yet well made and freakin sharp his marking knife is! Thank you Pask, it’s beautiful and high quality and something I’ll cherish forever! I love that we can support you and your work as your contribution to the woodworking, welding and forging communities is tremendous and can’t be understated! I look forward to using this exquisite jewel in my garage and thank you for the plans that came with your marking knife! I will absolutely be building from your plans and with the help of my Pask Makes marking knife 🤘🏼

Pask that's awesome. Only advice I have is use contact adhesive instead of epoxy. Any epoxy or super glue can destroy the leather due to the exothermic reaction caused by the curing where as contact adhesive theres none and will stick solid. I'm a leather worker btw lol

They say that necessity is the mother of all invention. In wood working you need a good marking knife. But, when craftsmanship creates function and beauty, then it is artisan. Great job of both!
@donrad
@donrad 4 жыл бұрын
There is an advantage to leaving one side completely flat (no leather) for woodworking marking where the craftsman needs to run the knife along the flat side of a thick board to mark another board beneath. A more accurate mark is made as opposed to coming in at an angle.
@Yuzuki1337
@Yuzuki1337 4 жыл бұрын
I reckon one flat side also makes it easier to use it as a prying tool, if ever needed :)
@keirfarnum6811

That’s how I make my marking knives; wood on just one side so the flat back can register to whatever it’s being pressed against. Works out well.

It is the accuracy of your work that never fails to astound me. The slightest difference in the grinding of the two bevels or curves, of even a tiny fraction of a mm, would stand out a mile yet it is perfect. You make it seem so easy when it really is not. Total respect!
