Bledsoe Consulting Services I’m retaking FAR after not earning a passing score. Like you, I have been away from undergrad and grad school for that matter for quite sometime so I’m “studying” by watching lectures. Your point about doing MCQs rather than watching lectures makes sense. I’m going to give that a try this time around. I’m using Surgent CPA review.

I'm on Step 1! Finding a study program. Doing the trials for a couple of them to see what works best for me. I plan to start with FAR and I planned to review and study for 6 months like you. YIKES! Soooooo how long should you review/learn using lectures and reading text?
@BledsoeConsultingServices4 жыл бұрын
Wonderful! Let me know which one you decided to do! I think studying for 6 months is way too long. 2 months max study window is what I recommend.
@BledsoeConsultingServices4 жыл бұрын
For how long you should review with lectures and text, it depends on the length of the content. Some study programs offer content in such a concise way that you can power through it quickly, but others you'll have to cram more hours. My strategy was learning the first 4 weeks and then reviewing the second 4 weeks.

I passed the CPA Exam while working full time too! When you say practice exams do you mean reworking multiple choice? I didn't a full practice exam made up of 70 questions (was intimidated by stories of becker practice exams) but little quizzes of like 10-30 or so and I reworked all of my multiple choice 4 -5 days before taking the cpa and when I did that I scored above 83s on the remaining three exams. I would go through the notes I made for a section in a chapter, rewrite more condensed notes on the topic (like a little study guide), and I reworked all of the mcq for that section until I got through the chapter(s) I was supposed to review that day. That helped me immensely and helped me pass my remaining exams. I also took off a day or so before my cpa exam (i tried to schedule exam for a tuesday and take off monday and that prior friday to have four full days to review without work). Luckily, I had an understanding boss. Good luck to those studying!

What I meant was taking the time to sit for 4 straight hours and take a practice exam as if it was the real thing. Back in my day (can't believe I'm already saying this), there were no built in breaks, therefore, I had to plan to sit there the entire time without a break because I needed every second to focus on the exam. Therefore, part of the reason I say do practice exams is not only to identify your weak areas, but also to get in the mindset of focusing for such a long period of time without experiencing mental fatigue or distractions. In other words, providing muscle memory for the brain! Congrats on passing the exam! Of course, everyone has a different approach, but practice exams are crucial, in my humble opinion. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am sure it will be motivating for others! :)

Hi Shakilah! Thanks for your question. It truly depends on your goals. What is your 5 year plan? Ideally, what does life look like after the CPA exam?
@lustforlife_sp6 жыл бұрын
Bledsoe Consulting Services i plan to hold an accounting position for the next 3-5 years in corporate setting (to gain experience and take advantage of grad school/cpa sponsoring). i LOVE real estate investing, so leveraging cpa with that, both personally and as service to others, is what i’m really pursuing. expecting those services to start off as needed/part time, while continuing to work full time. rereading my comment..maybe i’ll work on a more structured plan this weekend lol
@BledsoeConsultingServices6 жыл бұрын
:) Sounds like a structured plan is definitely in order. Masters in Accounting is best suited for those who wish to have an accounting career. People with this background are typically in public accounting as auditors or tax professionals who eventually move to industry and become Controllers and CFO's. I only became a CPA, because I knew I wanted to remain in accounting as a career. Prior to that I was in accounting, but dabbled with different industries on the side (fitness & KZbin - personal branding). The CPA is a lot of work so you'll want to make sure you have a STRONG why so that when times get hard you'll be committed to your goal. Let me know if this is helpful. If you have further questions, then I'm happy to answer!

Passing exam can be good if someone is making headways into the job market.I am so demoralized to make more attempts towards earning CPA because entry in job market has been so discouraging.Kindly give me some tips on how to go about the job market.
@BledsoeConsultingServices7 жыл бұрын
I'd say be ok with taking an entry position. Public accounting is not for everyone. Just because you are a CPA, doesn't mean right out the gate you'll be making a 6-figure income and be a manager or controller with no previous experience. A CPA provides a great foundation and is more of a ticket to take you to the next level and get your foot in the door. However, you gotta do the rest and prove yourself while on the job. Be willing to work those crazy hours during peak season, travel, relocate for the job and whatever else is necessary to build a reputation of being a diligent worker. Having the CPA designation is a piece of the puzzle. This rest is your determination to work hard. Hope this helps and this is a great topic for a future video. I'll definitely add it to the list. Did this response help? Let me know and thanks so much for watching!
