Back in 2001 I arrive at college. Everyone on our dorm floor is figuring out each other’s musical tastes. One day this dude plays Screaming Infidelities for me and my mind was BLOWN. He heard me listening to it over and over. Shortly thereafter he’s like, ok, have you heard of Jimmy Eat World? ... Jimmy Whirl? Who? ... he plays For Me This is Heaven. NUKE. hooked for LIFE. ..... almost 20 years later to see these two yukkin it up casually is just awesome! here’s to another 20 🤘

Hey, Jim, you should have Courtney Marie Andrews on your show! Obviously you know she toured with you guys like 10 years ago on keys and backup vocals, but since then she's made incredible solo albums that are critically acclaimed. She'd be the BEST guest on this show, and you already know each other!

I dig what Chris said about waking up at 3am. I have always written best in the hours between 2-5 am (back when I could). There is almost like...less cosmic confusion in the energy around you. Folks are sleeping and the energy in your surroundings is quaint. Maybe even more peaceful. So whatever lets those songs in when you put the antenna up comes to you much easier because there's no interference from conscious minds creating cosmic confusion...Or...Something like that...hehehe :-/ Everything is energy, and music exists on frequencies and waves that are more likely to be absorbed when most folks around you are peacefully asleep.

I love watching these because I can relate to so much of what they say. It's Awe inspiring to know that these multi-million dollar artists go through the same songwriting struggles as everyone else. I remember I had quit my band, I had like 3 or 4 notebooks full of song ideas. I married my wife and years later she took up the guitar and after a couple months of learning she started writing music. She asked me randomly one night "I'm having trouble with this one part. I can't decide what to do here." for some reason when she played the part, my mind shot back to some random song burried in one of the notebooks. I dug them out and tracked it down. She used it for about 2 days then ended up changing it up a bit and fit something else in, but it's amazing how a song can just randomly take place out of nowhere sometimes.

Chris is such a sweet guy. You get a sense that he's making Jim feel good. Some people have that kind of energy that after encountering them, you walk away feeling better about yourself. I didn't know that about him, I actually thought he was a dick. He's a great conversationalist too. It felt awkward when Jim interviewed Mark Hoppus, like he wasn't invested. Chris is a good dude. As much as I love music, It's hard for me to write my own music. As much as I practice playing the guitar for the past 16 years, I can't do it. So I've down loaded Music Studio in the apple app store and am able to create with what I can. I've asked my close friend to send me a track of whatever guitar songs he's made so I can collaborate with that. The interesting about it is that, his music was a guide to how I wrote anything because I would mute his track, write something to coexist with it. the song came out amazing! The best part for me is the fact that the track that he sent me was a great song alone. Then What I've added to it made it better. But then If you were to mute his track, my song alone is just amazing (to me) by itself! Almost two separate songs. So I've always felt that I need a guide or an band/orchestra to help release the music that I can barley express myself.

So...wait...Bleed American was 100% tracked to Pro-Tools? Whoa...That record has some of the best drum, vox, and guitar sounds I have ever heard...PERIOD! It sounds like tape compression on the drums & guitars...So weird. My band actually had Mark Trombino mix a song for us and we had him mix in a % of the drum samples from Bleed American hahaha. I really didn't think Pro-Tools was, well fat sounding enough back then on it's own. Like the wave bits didn't look like an analog line yet. Learn something knew every day. Clarity I had heard was half & half. I thought BA was as well. I thought that was Trombino's thing back then. Thanks for the "clarity" hehehehe \m/
