I never thought I would like this guy, but, his lyrics and melodies really grow on you. I like the high end on guitar he seems to cultivate and his finger picking style. It's great not to have to listen to another imitation hipster banging up and down on the guitar with a flatpick, with his tats and his fedora... He seems like a lonely little dude, though..... Hopefully he won't go all mainstream and start dating selena gomez or something.....

Pour the petrol can, around this caravan And watch the flames take all you own There's a girl who understands Like the back of her two hands She's all you need to know Cause you search for years but you lose everything you find There's braille for the deaf and a signpost for the blind There's heaven for the cruel but the devil waits for the kind [Whistling] And you follow the blackbird home, through the early winter snow Your footprints track you through the grass And you ache just to smell her clothes And her cooking down on the stove You see her face in everyone you pass Cause you search for years but you lose everything you find There's braille for the deaf and a signpost for the blind There's heaven for the cruel but the devil waits for the kind And you walk down to her window Press your face against the glass Only to find that she is happy in his arms [Whistling] Cause you search for years but you lose everything you find There's braille for the deaf and a signpost for the blind There's heaven for the cruel but the devil waits for the kind

Anyone actually listening to the song? There's alot of religious talk going on. Half of you are missing the point of the lyrics. He is point blank saying you search for years for that right thing; be that a person and or the best in life - But somehow the good guys miss their opertunities ( the sign posts etc) and they always seem to come out last. heaven for the cruel is clearly a reference to people who don't try but somehow get everything they want. Stop making it out to be religious, and over analysing it!!
@telsport9 жыл бұрын
or underanalyzing it and getting it wrong. Nice comment. Like this song.
@andysmith61899 жыл бұрын
Tom Loughlin Jr. i know! It's such a good song but for some reason i HAVE to read the comments and when you see something like "this guy is an idiot, cruel don't go to heaven".... just makes me realise how uneducated our world is.
@andysmith61899 жыл бұрын
***** dude did you read my analysis or did you skim over it? I didn't say he is right and the song didn't start off by saying "im going to sing about a hard fact that everybody deals with in life." Further more, i didn't say 'good' guys dont get anything and only the 'bad' do. How can you comment that im wrong when it's an analysis from my view - what, is my opinion not allowed? If people agree with me, it's because in this world people try to achieve something by putting all their effort in it, only for it to be taken by someone who they believe doesn't deserve it and or only puts half the amount of effort towards. Point being; most people have felt this way be that a small thing and or large.

***** fair play man. Haha :L

Good points ... applies to much out there (from other songs, to films, paintings, books, slogans, TV commercials), and people's reading of what they see/hear (or think they see / hear, I suppose). A considerable portion of people with views to express, who insist on expressing them, are either (1) quite religious, in an extroverted way; or (2) quite anti-religion, often to the point of feeling great need to attack/shut-down any instance of an extroverted religious person expressing themselves. I love Passenger's music. I've never seen or inferred any overt religious reference in his music. Clearly, humans will often see what we seek in much that we come across ... comes with the personal view/interest bias. For full disclosure, I consider myself religious; however, I am absolutely certain I am well short of a zealot (smile).

One listens to a folk singer like passenger with many references to life and some of them refer to religion. My question to those that notice it is; have you ever wondered what Jesus talked to his followers about when they sat around the campfire at night. Funny, why is there so little of Jesus in the Christian faith?

@ropebunny36010 жыл бұрын
What I think this means is that you don't get what you want in this world, most of the time. When Mike says "there's heaven for the cruel, but the devil waits for the kind" I think he's talking about how the "cruel" get what they want, mostly because they know how to get it. The "kind" don't get what they want, because they are too busy being optimistic. This world is not a place for optimism, not if you want to succeed. I believe in being kind, but if you just spend your life living for others, it's not worth it.
@telsport9 жыл бұрын
