Ngl I also did not know how connecting flights worked. I remember stopping in a city in Alaska turning to the flight attendant all embarrassed like “do…do I stay on this flight?” And she was like “oh yeah! Don’t worry we’re taking off again soon” and I was like “sorry, first time”. She was super nice about it!

My first time trying to fly they refused to let me board because I didn’t check in. I didn’t know I was supposed to check in on my phone. They didn’t send an email or anything specifying that I did. They refused to put me on another flight, and refused to refund my ticket because it was non refundable. I was going to see my mom for thanksgiving. It’s not that they couldn’t do anything to help, it’s that it was late and the person I talked to didn’t want to take the time to help. It was frontier airlines I was going through, they were horrible. Flying alone for the first time is not easy.
@NYKevin100
@NYKevin100 5 ай бұрын
@@SmashedPancakes3939 I don't mean to blame you, since it was your first flight alone, but as a rule, budget airlines provide much worse service than "real" airlines, because you have elected not to pay for "real" service. It's fine if you have your shit together and know exactly what you're doing, but maybe not the greatest choice for an inexperienced flyer.
@SmashedPancakes3939
@SmashedPancakes3939 5 ай бұрын
@@NYKevin100 definitely not you’re 100% correct, my mom had bought the ticket for me and then I had gone and added baggage to the ticket so I could take my luggage because it wasn’t included. (It was a ticket she bought on sale) I just wish that I had gotten an email or something that told me to be there extra early or that I needed to check in 24hrs before my flight. I thought you checked in when you arrived at the airport but I was wrong. It just sucked, I could have done better as well but with no instructions I was lost. And then afterwards I had no help at all, they refused to at least refund me for my baggage because they didn’t even touch my bags, and the lady at the airport wouldn’t help me figure out if I could get another flight to replace it, so when I contacted support the next day (it was closed when I had arrived) they told me that I was not eligible for a refund or a new flight because I “forfeited” my ticket.

some airports are so well organized that unless your plane is REALLY late, 20 minutes is perfectly enough. one time i had to switch planes in Vienna, for which i had 45 minutes, and i ended up sitting 20 minutes under the gate because i got there so quickly, and i wasn't even rushing

Okay, let's try and get this straight: 1) Regardless of where you started, you ended up on the east coast in Atlanta. 2) Your connecting flight leaves in 20 minutes: a) You come to your senses on your error and not continuing to fight with me or have security involved, you "might" catch that connector. b) Assuming your new departing gate isn't at the opposite end of the airport and you have to do the old HERTZ/ O.J. Simpson commercial act of sprinting to the gate. c) The flight is no more than 1.5 hours long. d) Assuming you can get out from the Detroit airport, with your luggage TO THE VENUE (in under an hour) and you won't have time to get to the hotel or family's home to change and relax beforehand. 3) What do you consider being "fashionably" late? 4) You couldn't book a direct flight. Why?

I love it that the attendant got the last word this time. So many times IRL, they don't. Edit: I have been getting a huge number of people correcting me on this comment. The thing is that I meant it's not often that we see service people of any kind (not military) get the last word, especially in Sam's very realistic skits. I am aware that the safety of a plane load of people is riding on the fact that the airline staff will always have the last word. I wish I had worded my initial comment differently.

Airline crew are not like regular people in the service industry. (Technically their main job is safety, and service comes after.) Once you're on their plane, you're on their terf and if they don't like you, you're in for a rough flight. Airplane law is so strict you're not going to just 'Talk to the manager' when things don't go your way. It's their way or else. They have every right to throw you off of a plane before take off, or ban you from the airline they work for if you're being a problem customer.

Idk I flew in Apirl, and each connecting flight was in Orlando Florida, with how aboustely stupid that airport layout is we actually had less then 30 mins to cross a section of the airport to get to our gate because we was delayed landing Coming back our plane unboarded litterally on the wrong side of the airport and the flight attendees even said "Uh flight tower has told us to unboard here so if you have a connecting flight with our airline we are on the wrong side of airport, please ask for assistance getting to your flight" We had to go through security again because the airport is part of a public place and that's how far across the airport we was, we had to take 2 trams and was rushing because we was supposed to take off in 2 hours and it took us a hour to cross the airport, however that plane was also delayed by 7 hours due to a storm that came through but we atleast was at our gate for those 7 hours

Yeah ATL is a connections heavy airport so none of that security at gate change nonsense. It's literally five parallel terminals with a rail line connecting them (plus a bonus international section at the end). Get off, get on the train and find the gate. Not doable in this case because she has literally 5 mins to deplane and rush but that's her fault. (Planes close boarding in the last 15 mins, although in ATL you might fudge it)@@xXDarklyAngelXx

I had a similar situation. The flight I was on was going to Las Vegas, with a layover. The woman next to me had struck up a conversation during the flight, and I had said I was going to Las Vegas. She was going to somewhere else (idk, Atlanta? - I was coming from east coast to west coast). I mentioned I was glad I got to stay on the plane, and she said, "me too", which didn't make sense to me, but I figured as an adult she'd figure her situation out (and I checked MY ticket to be sure I wasn't the stupid one). When we landed, everyone who was at their destination or had a connecting flight was let off. Steward did a headcount, and we had too many people. They asked like 3 times for people to check their tickets and make sure they were on the correct flight. One person comes up and leaves. Still too many. So they ask everyone to pull out their ticket and ID and they have to check everyone manually since the headcount is still off. Well, lo and behold once they said they have to have someone put eyes on the tickets and everyone HAS to get them out, this woman finally figured out she was on the wrong plane. Everyone was nice overall, but really annoying when the steward has asked MULTIPLE times for people to CHECK THEIR TICKETS and gets ignored until the very last moment.

Flight Attendant: "Karen, I'd like you to meet Tyrone. He's a former football player that now works for airport security. He's here to escort you to your next destination. Have a nice day!" 🙂 Moments later... Tyrone: "Taser... Taser... Taser..." Happy endings. 🥳

I one time had a friggin panic attack because I had a single stop over in Chicago from Heathrow. And they were like OK, we're at Dulles, now get off the plane. And I was like no, I booked a 1 stop flight, that had a stopover in Chicago, nothing about Dulles was mentioned. They said, this isn't a stopover since you aren't switching to a different plane. You just have to get off the plane, go to baggage claim and get your bags, go through customs, go to a different gate, and get back on the exact same plane. I demanded that as it would take less time to drive home, then to do all that and have a stopover in Chicago. I wanted them to switch me to a plane that was going to my final destination, three hours away by CAR. I exited the plane before having a full blown panic attack.

A few years ago at Los Angeles airport, a young lady didn't want to be checked in for a Philadelphia flight because she insisted that she was traveling to Pennsylvania. She kept refusing to check in for Philly, despite the fact that she was being told that PA is a state and PHL is a city.

In theory, this person booked their ticket, would have seen on the screen that there were two flights, would have gotten an EMAIL with the flight details, showing two flights, and is still confused.

Some people actually do have trouble reading tickets and travel plans. A friend of mine was just like that. Pure chaos. I always had to write a travel plan for her whenever she wanted to visit me so she wouldn't get lost. She always went by bus and train to visit me. I always tried to find connections where she wouldn't need to hop trains often. It took her 10+ years to learn how to read those kind of travel plans in her travel apps or on the internet. The last 3x visiting me per train and bus she only consulted me to make sure she understood her travel plan right. I was so proud of her that she worked hard to solve her problem. She had like A LOT of trouble reading those before.

I can understand getting confused if you've been looking at travel times, prices, cities (due to connections) while in the process of purchasing tickets but by the time your traveling you should know when & where your flights are going. Unless your flight(s) get bumped, delayed or changed (and aren't your fault). I did almost end up going to St. John New Brunswick vs. St. John's Newfoundland while in the process of purchasing the tickets. There was a big enough price difference so I was like yes this flight, but luckily, I double-checked before clicking.

This is where speaking slowly and using a disarming tone works lmao. If they don't understand the first 3 times I say it, then talking to them like a child usually works. And yes.. it helps in all explaining to any customers. Also.. TWENTY minutes? even if I left my plane right away, there's a slim chance I'd make it.

Once at an airport in Houston I saw a panicked woman, and asked if she needed help. She said she couldn't find terminal F. Told her this airport didnt have a terminal F and asked if she would show me her tickect. I quickly pointed out that the gate/terminal was not list, that she needed to check the destination monitors, and that the "F" was the row she was assigned on the plane. She raised her voice at me (I was trying to help) and almost yelled her flight was in terminal F (IAH doesn't have a terminal F). I stared at her for a few seconds after she yelled at me, said "take care" and walked away. I heard her curse at me as I walked away... wonder if she made her flight?

Probably not. I'd have tried to tell her gates are shown much closer to departure than check-in time, so that field is probably blank unless she checked in quite late.
