Passengers Bleed From Ears After Pressure Issue on Plane

It was a flight these passengers will never forget. A Delta jet had just taken off from Salt Lake City, en route to Portland, Oregon, when something went wrong. As the plane ascended to 10,000 feet, several passengers started screaming in pain, bleeding from their ears or nose. Jim Moret says the aircraft immediately turned around and made an emergency landing back where it had just taken off. The airline apologized to its customers and also said that the aircraft was unable to pressurize above 10,000 feet.

This is legit nightmare fuel. I was on a Chinook that ascended a little too quickly and I could feel my head wanting to explode. The worst thing was that it was dead at night and I didn't know if it was sweat or blood until we landed. It also feels worse if you have even the slightest sinus inflammation.

That’s not fully true yes pilots have control of the pressure but who to say that there wasn’t a bigger problem the pressure gage could have also read correct altitude you can’t always blame it on the pilots

on climb-out, pilots dont even think about checking cabin pressure barometers; but I've always been conscientious about this, even if it's not S.O.P. because my job RELIES on my ears being in peak condition. I am a recording studio affiliate producer, and this would END my CAREER. I'm no audiologist, but I wonder if this could've been mitigated by wearing foam ear-plugs that form a seal, upon initial wheel's up? I usually wear my in-ear buds or monitors during take-off, THEN remove them about 15min after takeoff, thru the 2nd cloud layer, to pop my eustachian tubes (acclimate to altitude) ; so this is a true NIGHTMARE~SCENARIO !!! !!
